Rafa vs Parry - interesting read

    Taken from TalkLFC:

If we accept the C.Ronaldo timing error, it's an interesting read

    Procrastrination, Machination or Self Delusion?

    ==============================================
Here are a few things that may prove interesting to the Liverpool fans.

I have just returned home from a 2 hour meeting that took place at a London hotel, with my source who works within Anfield, and I along with a colleague of mine was told the following.

Rafael Benitez is not thinking about stepping down, resigning, or walking out on Liverpool fullstop.

He remains fully commited to the Liverpool rebuilding programme.

Im told Rafael Benitez's public outburst after the European Final was not aimed at the owners, Tom Hicks & George Gillett - it was a combination of Benitez being upset at losing the game & frustrations with Rick Parry.

The 'Talk Talk Talk' comment was aimed at Rick Parry.

I was told today that Benitez' see's Rick Parry as "A great P.R man that offers no real substance".

The problems between Benitez & Parry started during Benitez's first summer transfer window.

He was dismayed to be losing out on players to rivals Arsenal, Chelsea & Manchester United.

It's true Mr Moores couldn't back Rafa with an unlimited budget, like what we have seen Roman Abramovich do at Chelsea, but the problem as Rafa see's it, isn't just the money factor, but the time it takes Rick Parry to make the initial interest known in the player, speaking with the relevent clubs & agents & then submitting the bids.

(Although it was heavily stressed to us that Mr Moores has been more than generous during his time as Liverpool Chairman in backing & supporting all the managers - including Rafa.)

Its aggravates Benitez that he has his 'army of scouts' working hard around the world in finding talent, but the club (Parry) acts too slow in securing those players.

I was told that Benitez wanted to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Aguero & Theo Wallcott to name a few, but lost out because the club acted too slow & by the time Liverpool & Parry acted, other clubs had made there interest known & gone a long way in securing those players.

In the case of Cristiano Ronaldo - Benitez told Parry about him and Parry entered negotiations for the youngster, but the deal broke down when Parry refused to pay the 5 Million 'extra' pounds that would have been needed to secure Ronaldo.

We were told that Parry saw that extra money as "too big a gamble to take".

That was the first time Benitez told the board of his 'worries' regarding Rick Parry.

I was told that when Benitez first attacked Parry at a board meeting regarding these players, that is when Noel White came out & publicly criticised Benitez & subsequently Noel White was forced to resign & make a public apology for going to the papers without telling Mr Moores.

Benitez told Mr Moores that if Noel White wasnt sacked for his outburst, he would walk with immediate effect - so Mr Moores sacked him & then the club came out all guns blazing, with "total & unequivocal " support for Rafa and distanced themselves from Noel White & his comments.

Obviously, Rick Parry doesn't fund the transfers, but he has to make judgement calls & decide which players Liverpool get with the money available at the time & some board members present & past, feel Parry is doomed in whatever he does.

Benitez doesnt share that view. He now is of the view that Parry is too much of a handicap to Liverpool and wants him moved on.

There have been other instances of players wanted by Benitez and again the club lost out, because they acted too slow in trying to secure them - Simao & Dani Alves are two futher cases of that.

LFC lost out on Simao last year because of 2 million pounds & with Dani Alves, the clubs difference in valuation was 3 million.

This summer, both those players will cost more than what they would have done a year ago & Benitez see's that as "sloppy".

We were told, when you are trying to re-build a football team, basically from scratch as Rafa was, it wasn't possible for him or wouldnt make sense to go out and sign, say - Shaun Wright-Phillips for 17 million, when that 17 Million could buy 4 or 5 players.

When Hicks, Gillett, Benitez, Pako Ayestaran & Parry all met in Liverpool two days after the final in Athens to discuss Benitez's comments & concerns among other things, Benitez told them that he feels that he & his staff have taken the current Liverpool squad as far as they can & although its a good team - its a team that will be unable to compete for the Premiership title, unless Hicks lives upto his promise of substancial funds.

George Gillett has told Rafa that his son Foster will arrive in August and will takeover the days to day running of the club, including transfers in an attempt to appease Benitez, but it was stressed to him that Parry has a two year contract which they will honour.

My contact said that Rick Parry will only be working on the players contracts for the time being, as Hicks himself is getting personally involved in the up & coming deals with Benitez.

My source said today - in his opinion, Gillett feels he owes a massive debt to Parry, as it was Parry who enabled the Americans to buy into Liverpool. Its was Parry who advised Mr Moores to drop the interest in the Dubia group after being given the deadline'.

As for what money Benitez will recieve this summer for transfers, during a phone conference that took place a week ago, Tom Hicks directly asked Rafa what money he thinks will be needed for players & Benitez gave a figure.
Benitez was then suprised to hear Hicks say he will have more money than what he had requested.

Hicks has told Benitez exactly what is available to him for this summer & the money is not a problem.

All this talk of Liverpool having to sell players to buy players is nothing more than a few journo's creating mischief.

My source says exactly what I have been writing on this forum - there will be next to no signings made before the 17th of June, after that time Liverpool will be making some annoucements.

As Hicks himself says to the LFC fans today :-

    Be patient!

He also says that every Liverpool fan will be more than happy with what they produce in the coming weeks.

Why should I believe any of the "facts" in that considering the fact that the Cristiano Ronaldo story was clearly from the Houllier era and Man Uited have from many accounts got a feeder club relationship with Sporting?

As DWW says, you can't believe a report which has elements which are so factually incorrect.

Besides this, I couldn't really see Alonso and Reina committing their futures to the club unless Rafa's future wasn't guaranteed.

I've not seen it before but I also stopped reading as soon as C.Ronaldo was mentioned. At the point, it simply loses all credibility - there is no brushing that aside.

I was just about to say that.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Agreed, very lazy piece of work. The author really should check his facts before putting it in the public domain.
