Forlan failed at Manu, but his form in Spain has been **** hot. To say we will never win the league under Rafa is nieve, we will never win the league under any manager unless we compete in the transfer market. Benitez is one of the best and most respected managers anywhere at the moment and I for one wouldn't swap him for anyone right now.

So what has been the price rumored for Tevez? I would take him over Eto'o any day. Especially if we save some money into the bargain.Originally posted by Reds08 View PostMy worry is who is out there that we could get. Villa, Torres, Eto'o, Tevez, all out of our league i'm afraid. Darren Bent, Jermain Defoe? I really am starting to panic, I don't care what Hicks and Gillett say.

I only worry that we haven't come close to winning it under Rafa, we haven't had a sniff. Even if we get the big signings that we need, there is a bedding in time that will bring average results until Christmas, by which time we will be out of the race....AGAIN. Rafa out.

IMO, I don't think it would ever happen. But as it is clear we can't afford a top bracket striker, if Forlan did come in, would you start to believe me when I say we will never win the league with Rafa in charge?Your argument is completely circular. If we sign Forlan and he is just average then fair enough it is further evidence that Rafa has not got an eye for PL worthy strikers and without one we are much less likely to win the league. But if Forlan came and he completed the team and scored a bucket load of goals then your whole argument falls down.Originally posted by Reds08 View PostHe isn't. But if we have him up front we will finish 4th, not win away from home until January, get humiliated away against big sides, and have a decent run in the champions league. Not good enough.
We have only very speculative rumours (now denied to link us to a move for Forlan) anyway. So I suspect you are trying to use this as evidence to allow you to come forth with an anti-Rafa stand point without getting abused.
I don't really think the game against Chelsea away was a humiliation. Those against Arsenal and Man United were bad but I think that our team progressed over the season and those games came relatively early on."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Exactly, Rafa's inability to bring in players (with excpetions) that can really make the difference means that we are going to struggle early on every season, because he then brings in more average players that aren't good enough. He isn't a good manger in england im afraid, bring back Evans.

Sorry mate I can't agree with you on that, so we haven't won the league yet, Rafa may have made soem poor signing, but look at what Evans, Houllier, Souness, Ferguson, Mourinho have made, every manager makes bad signing, that doesn't make them a bad managerOriginally posted by Reds08 View PostExactly, Rafa's inability to bring in players (with excpetions) that can really make the difference means that we are going to struggle early on every season, because he then brings in more average players that aren't good enough. I'm the original Guus fanatic around here bud. Ask the guys who are ex-Koptalkers.
As for the thread, there's no way I would believe that we are signing Forlan, but I did say the same about Crouch.

This is crap. The problem at the start last season was the form of our existing players post world cup. Carragher looked crushed, Xabi and Stevie tired and frnkly the less said about Reinas early season form the better.Originally posted by Reds08 View PostExactly, Rafa's inability to bring in players (with excpetions) that can really make the difference means that we are going to struggle early on every season, because he then brings in more average players that aren't good enough. I would argue that most of Rafas buys have been good: Reina, Alonso, Agger, Garcia particularly. You use evidence very selectively. Even accepting your point which seems to be that Rafa can't judge players, he has expressed his frustration at not getting his first choice targets before, what makes you think he won't now go for pure squad improvements.
The players we boughtin struggled because the established team and pattern were not functioning. Rafa has consistantly out performed Wenger in the last two seasons and started from a much poorer team."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Contradiction. Shall we list the good ones against the bad ones then? Selective evidence is using four good buys and claiming that is 'most'.
