We should still get an offer from Spain for him if Betis go down

        [QUOTE=Dhavlos;506578]My thoughts exactly.

Still, there's been a lot of foreing players who have not excelled in their first season in England and then become world beaters. I'm thinking of Pires and Drogba particularly. QUOTE]

I realise this wasnt your whole point but on this note - my thoughts are as follows:

        - Do players who show some potential deserve longer than 1 season to prove their worth? - IMO Yes
        - Was Speedy brought into improve (not like he had a massive amount to do given Barry was injured) our left side? - IMo Yes
        - Did he once (just once) go past (in old fashioned terms, skin) a full back in all his appearances that might suggest he has something in him? - Ive never seen him go past a decent full back
        - What would define 'improvement for him? - skinning the odd defender and/or setting/scoring the odd goal perhaps
        - Will he step upto the next level and start getting close to this level after year 1? - I hope so but Rafa knows best and hes up for sale.

Personally I havent seen anything in Speedy to suggest he has potential.

Without sounding unreasonable - if hes supposed to be fast could he not at worst kick and rush past an average player and beat him on pace? I havent seen every game but ive seen nothing of this supposed speed he has so I dont mind if hes shippeds out at a profit.

Shame given that we waited a year on his work permit and are still waiting. I almost got a shirt with Speedy on it but my last 'speculative' shirt name was Cisse so im not a great judge apparently

I totally agree with you Stuart. Players like Henry, Pires, and Drogba had good first seasons but became more consistant and played with more confidence in the seasons that followed. Sadly, Gonzalez didn't really show us he was capable of anything we'd want him to produce more consistantly in the first place.

In all fairness to the lad he had begun to find his feet a little and then he got injured.
I think Rafa can't wait to see if he will develop into the player he thought he wants someone who will hit the ground running.
I personally think he would've got there but I get a feeling with Harry back Rafa will use him more and will not be giving Speedy the chance to develop.

The Chilean soccer player Mark González, new reinforcement of the Real Betis of Spain, said Monday that hopes to render in their new equipment to make sure a position between the holders, unlike which happened in his recent passage by the Liverpool of England. González, who confirmed that she will be integrated to the Betis with a contract of six years, was declared do withoutible by the Liverpool a day after the equipment lost the 2-1 end of Liga de Campeones before the AC Milan of Italy the 23 of May. "It is a fact that childbirth to the Betis, the equipment stayed in first division. I am very contented to start off for a new club, where they are the desire to continue demonstrating a good level ", González said to Reuters. Betis stayed in the Maxima category of the Spanish league the weekend after overcoming the 2-0 to Racing de Santander."Durante time which I remained in the Liverpool always I was considered, although I was several parties was by injury. English soccer, where finally I was only a year, is quite difficult. I could have been but I chose to play ", added. The Chilean did not manage to consolidate like titling in the equipment directed by the Spanish Rafael Benítez. In the period in which he was in England also he had to face injuries that left it to the margin of the equipment. González received with pride its crossing of English soccer to the Spanish, who according to their criterion is the best leagues of the world. Previously, the South American militated in the Spaniards Albacete and Real Society, while he transacted his visa of work to play in Liverpool.

Yes. I spent 3/4 of the season making excuses for him but from where I sit on the Kop he was generally awful.

REDSCOUSER suggested in another thread that he hadn't seen a worse crosser of the ball than Pennant, but IMO Speedy was far worse.

Sorry but there it is - he was overawed almost every time he touched the ball and was a rabbit in the headlights just like Pennant [although Pennant seemed to be getting over it towards the end of the season]

                Anyway, it was Rochdale reserves.'

True i did say that, Pennant was supposed to be the next best thing to sliced bread in England but his crossing was awful last season, on the other hand Gonzo is a new player from a new league so he has to be given a chance to prove himself.
Overall, I think Gonzo is a better player than Pennant. He can finish, he got good burst of speed and can cross. My opinion of course.

and your allowed it of course [got to be nice,,,,,,,,,,,,got to be nice]

I would have agreed for a fair bit of the season but by the end I was getting fed up with him. Loads of embarrasing crosses into the stands behind/above the goal, loads of running but never getting past anyone, and I'm not sure where you get the idea he can finish from?
I like it that Rafa gets rid quickly of players that obviously aren't going to make it at LFC, and good luck to him and everything, but Speedy is never going to improve enough to make it at Anfield.

Well i thought he finished his dinner well v Haifa to give us a 2-1 1st leg lead, showed good awarness to score v Spurs after Bellend hit the post and then he scored a lovely free kick at the Kop End v Fulham.
True he did not perform to all our expectations but what did you expect ? He came from a small team to a big team. If he leaves good luck to him.
