Just thought we might get somewhere if we examine the facts rather than rely on 'Count'less inept cries for fame throughout the internetboards about zero funding and Rafa leaving. What do we know?

We know that Hicks and Gillett are old friends and that they trust each other.

We know they both have significant experience in the world of sports as club owners.

We know that they arrived with a strategy. We know that Moores endorsed it and that Rafa has been informed about it since February. We know that Rafa liked what he heard back then.

We know they promised action in this transfer window.

We know they will probably have to provide extra cash for the new and improved stadium.

We know that Rafa hates to pay over the odds for players.

Now, reading about a rift between Hicks and Gillett caused by disagreement over how much they should make available for Rafa in this window makes absolutely no sense. The strategy just evaporated from one moment to another?!

I suggest that everything we have seen so far has been an orchestration, courtesy of Hicks/Gillett and Rafa.

From Rafa's call for a swift hand in transfermarket, to these rumours about a Hicks/Gillett rift and everything that has fallen in between.

Big names will be signed. Either Eto'ó, Henry, Villa or Tevez

Nice post, I have been trying to think along the same lines. I think it is a cleverly planned strategy to make us look skint. If so it's working a treat! Linked with Benayoun for £1m today, laughable. I still think we have the funds for a bid for Eto'o, thats if he wants to come to Anfield and Barca choose to sell.

Plus once we go and make our first big signing, say Tevez for £25 million then the cat is out of the bag and the whole world knows we are minted. I have a feeling we will unveil mulptiple signings at the same time in order to keep up the facade that we are broke for as long as possible.

The thing is, Bent, Malouda, Benayoun, Simao etc are 'good' (if extremely overpriced) footballers, we all know that.

But the last 17 years has shown that in order to win the title we need top quality, world class players. Even if that means only signing ONE or TWO players per summer.

If we signed Eto'o and nobody else this summer, I would be delighted.

Eto'o will be Hicks 'Alex Rodriguez' this summer. I truly believe that we will not only brake our own transfer record. We will brake the British transfer record this summer. Consider it a letter of intend from Gillett/Hicks.

If the stories we hear from The Count and others were true, Rafa would have resigned already.

I just said the same on other thread, and it's what I truly believe. Getting 3-4 good players every window hasn't worked for us. Let's try getting 1 or 2 top players instead.

I believe we are about 3 top players away from winning the league, but what I am certian of is that 3-4 good players (eg Bent, Simao, Benayoun) won't get us closer to #19. IMO 1 top player (eg Eto'o) will.
