The way I see it is that the yankee infiltrators have conned all the Liverpool shareholders into selling out; they have conned Rafa into staying; they have conned Gerrard, Carragher, Alonso and Reina into signing long term contracts; they have conned the city council into believing they have plans for a new stadium; but I tell you this my friends, they have not, and I repeat NOT conned The Count."The definition of insanity is not running into the same wall again and again; it's expecting a different result every time you do it."

Only a naive and simple fool would believe we are signing Henry, purely on the basis of a firestorm of vague internet 'rumours' from dubious, unidentified sources.Originally posted by Howard_lfc View Postgood thread,
I still believe we're signing Henry !!!
Especially when there is such irrefutable, empirical evidence that we are virtually bankrupt, Hicks and Gillett are just snake-oil salesmen with no funds and Rafa is on the point of resignation. Take your head out of the sand, remove your rose-tinted spectacles, wake up, smell the coffee and live in the real world with the rest of us pessimists, damn you!

So how does making an alleged £2M bid for Benayoun fit into this grand vision. He is IMO not a great player , he is ridiculously cheap and yet another bloody midfield player. Given that we normally spend £15 to £20 million on a normal year and with the addition of the increased TV money-said to be £30 million-we should be looking to spend £45 to £50 million BEFORE any additional monies supposedly promised by our US "benefactors". If there promises have any meaning we will be looking at Liverpool's biggest ever transfer bonanza. Rumour was they promised an extra £30 million making an eye popping £75 to £80 million. On this budget no one in their right mind would be looking at players of the quality and value of Benayoun. Sorry to say I think we've been stitched up good and proper by our new owners and no one on current evidence can argue against this. Hope I'm wrong but I smell a very fishy smell emerging from Anfield. Promises have been made prior to the takeover and it seems now we have all been suckered into supporting this the financial shutters have come down and we're back shopping in the pound shop. Absolute joke. If this proves true the **** is going to hit the fan big time.Originally posted by CAD View PostJust thought we might get somewhere if we examine the facts rather than rely on 'Count'less inept cries for fame throughout the internetboards about zero funding and Rafa leaving. What do we know?
We know that Hicks and Gillett are old friends and that they trust each other.
We know they both have significant experience in the world of sports as club owners.
We know that they arrived with a strategy. We know that Moores endorsed it and that Rafa has been informed about it since February. We know that Rafa liked what he heard back then.
We know they promised action in this transfer window.
We know they will probably have to provide extra cash for the new and improved stadium.
We know that Rafa hates to pay over the odds for players.
Now, reading about a rift between Hicks and Gillett caused by disagreement over how much they should make available for Rafa in this window makes absolutely no sense. The strategy just evaporated from one moment to another?!
I suggest that everything we have seen so far has been an orchestration, courtesy of Hicks/Gillett and Rafa.
From Rafa's call for a swift hand in transfermarket, to these rumours about a Hicks/Gillett rift and everything that has fallen in between.
Big names will be signed. Either Eto'ó, Henry, Villa or Tevez
I believe!

The ridiculously low bid only makes sense if we only want him as a second/third choice or we have decided on the make up of signings we want - say two wide midfielders and a striker and one or two of our top targets are going to take up most of the budget. He was gong to sign a contract with them - now he isn't which means we have a better chance of getting him if we get our other big targets or alternatively they all fall through and we need a backup plan. It is obvious that our budget is not so low as to mean we have to bid only £1m to get deals done. It is obviously a tactical bid to show willing and open channels of communication IMO.Originally posted by liverpool View PostSo how does making an alleged £2M bid for Benayoun fit into this grand vision.
