opening fixture bias, mild coincidence or what!!

Prob mild coincidence but quite interesting 4 away days in a row and 10/15 in last 15 years. It certainly aint fair.

I suppose it's just a coincidence, but it's not very good really there should be systems in place to arrange the fixtures in an automatic order each year

to compare this kind of frequency, you need a special statistical test

chi squared or fisher's exact test.

these tests will tell you that if you assume the true chances of a home first fixture are truly equal, the chance of the actual frequency which has occurred over the last 15 years is as follows:

about a 3% that arsenal get 11 home ties and us 5

about a 13% for chavski to get 9 and us 5

about a 35% chance for the mancs

now if youre being scientific, if the chance of the actual events that occurred was < 5%, thats regarded as "significant". ie the ACTUAL fixtures suggesst arsenal are getting a favourable or increased chance of a 1st home game compared with lfc.

so this is scientific standard proof that the fa favours arsenal

i could have told everyone that anyway - who needs scientists

how many home games have we had last in last 10/15 years?
either could be classified as an advantage.

We should win all of our games, home or away.

          Edit: FACT!

Read somewhere that a lot of teams playing us on day 1 get relegated, so Villa should be the worried ones

We are away first and last games of the season though for next season!

In the last 8 seasons we have had 4 homes and 4 aways on the last day.

So we are away on the first day of the season, does that matter? No.
So we are at away on the last game of the season, does that matter? Not really since nothing really comes down to that game anyway.

Summing up, it makes no odds.

Surely whether we are at home and away also depends on Everton and whose fixtures were produced first. For obvious reasons we both can't hold home games on the same days.
