Nice work with the little embedded clip, Livster.

Must say I think that goal is WILDLY overrated. Crouch v Bolton was the best 'individual' goal and Crouchie's cracker at West Ham was the best team goal - yet the latter isn't even in the top ten! And yet Kuyt's 20 yard hit and hope from the same game is! Dear me. Is that all it takes to impress people? Leather a shot as hard as you can?

        You mean West Ham, yeah?

It's not even in the top ten!! Honestly, if the Mancs had scored that we'd be seeing it ad-nauseum for years and years to come. It was a wonderfully fast and incisive move, with a cracking finish at the end of it. How the hell can it not get in the top ten?!

Team goals always look neat and pretty and you appreciate them and all that but I always seem to prefer the 35yd blockbuster!!!

Good goal, and scored on my one and only visit to Anfield last season
What have I learned, Mr Mackay? Three things. One - bide your time. Two - keep your nose clean. And three - don't let the *******s grind you down

I voted for it out of the ten on offer, mainly for the swerve Agger got on the ball and the fact he's a defender. Stepping out of defence like that to score a cracker like that shouldn't be underestimated IMO.

Good call. I think it was the best as well

                        Fair point.

I mean, there's no doubting it was a great strike and Agger is a little bit special in that sense - a defender able to bring the ball out from the back, go past people and hit shots like that.

But I still prefer great moves to long-shots off the ground (volleys are a different matter entirely), and I probably prefer individual/solo dribbles to long-range screamers, too.

There are certain screamers, though, that are impossibly pleasing on the eye. I'm talking about the absolute ROCKETS. Not just a "bit of a belter" - I mean those that travel so quickly you think it's gonna burst the net. Recent efforts in this vein that spring to mind are Steven Reid's for Blackburn (against Wigan?) last season, and Denny Landzaat's for Wigan at Arsenal this season.

I also remember David Hirst smashing one against the crossbar at Highbury many years ago with a shot that I believe is still the hardest shot ever recorded - something like 112mph.

112 mph?????? Are you sure? I thought even Riise and Gerrard only strike it at 75-80 mph?

Yep, I'm sure. In fact it was 114mph. Just looked it up. Various sources on the net confirm it but here's Wiki:

I remember the shot well. Hirst was my favourite non-LFC player at the time - he was absolutely incredible and was better than Shearer, but injuries ruined him. The shot was jaw-dropping - it couldn't have been any closer to snapping the crossbar in half. I'd love to see it again.
