I think there is a danger abou t things between Man U and us getting out of control.

There's been a gradual build up of ill feeling between the two sets of fans over the past few years. You get Liverpool fans throwing bags of urine and faeces at Man U fans (how grim is that), fans attacking the ambulance carrying Smith to hospital after he had broken his leg, vandalism at Man U ground etc, and their fans do similar things to us.

The people on both sides who do this, or condone it should not be called fans. These actions do nothing but raise the feeling of anger and hatred, and eventually someone is going to get hurt.

Both the police and the club, stewards and supporters groups need to work together to weed this out of the game before it gets out of hand.

Loads of people were appalled by the Thatcher tackle on Mendez, saying how it was out of order, shouldn't be allowed in football, was an assault and should be treated as such. There were also calls to make football clean and that it should be an example for kids who see their "heroes" as role models.

It's a nonsense to say all this if it doesn't extend to the behaviour of the supporters as well.

Football is a game, a sport, which we should all be able to enjoy without running the risk of getting covered in excrement or beer etc, or getting hurt. It's just not worth that.
