    King Kenny

    to replace Sydney bound Rafa.

Honestly if you could guarantee watching just 5 games like the old Beardo, Barnes & Aldo days I'd be up for it. Unfortunately you have to throw in the 7 man defence away to Arsenal where we lost 3-0 with Hooper in goal and Molby as sweeper. Ahhh those were the days.

Ah! but the 5-0 masterclass against Nottingham Forest was the crowning glory. A football team playing in total harmony.

The Dutch talk about "total football" - that night we had it!

Those were the days - didn't think twice at paying top money, even breaking the transfer fee record, for Barnes, Beardsley and Rush

I don't think I've ever seen it 'counted' as a transfer record, but we bought Rushy back off Juve in 1988 (I think) for £2.7m - it was years before that fee was matched (we also paid around £2m for Beardsley a year earlier)

In today's money that's like spunking £30m (each) on 2 strikers, and another £15m on a winger!

I think Rush's was never recognised because the British record has to be between two British clubs, and it wasn't a European record either, so was never registered so to speak.
IIRC, it was actually £2.8m ...Beardsley was British record at £1.9m.

But you're right - I've often thought about that. To be fair, we sold him for £3.2m, so the cash wasn't an issue.

That game was on ESPN classic not so long ago and our finishing was woeful. It really was. That game shouldve been about 72-0. That game in my mind for years was a brilliant display but after watching it again, it ruined it! Some of the football did flow but the rest of it was absolute ****e and, like I said, the finishing was terrible!!
