    Ashanti Gold

Anyone know anything about our African feeder team? All I know is that they are second in the One Touch Premier League (Ghana):

    Club Pts
    Hearts(Oak) 58
    AshGold 53
    Kotoko 51
    Heart of Lions 47
    Arsenals 43
    Sportive 43
    Olympics 42
    Liberty 40
    Tema Youth 40
    Hasaacas 38
    RTU 36
    All Blacks 36
    Faisal 34
    Bofoakwa 32
    Feyenoord 32
    Power FC 18

Do they have any good players?

No idea really. The other year they invited us over there to improve their academy and to have some sort of link up. I think we get first option on their young players - but I'm not sure what we give in return.

Are some of those team names for real? Surely with team names like Arsenals and Feyenoord, they are not the most original names i've ever seen!

All straight from the official league web site (it's Hearts of Oak the abreviated one btw).

They seem to be the champions most years as well.

Apparently we send over coaching staff to help them out several times a year,

Also their most promising youngsters get to spend time at the club to improve their skills and of course we get first refusal on any likely to make the grade in the prem

The thread title confused me, I thought it was a type of illegal smoking substance that I had not tried

disclaimer: Not that I use or in anyway advocate the use of such substances
Lawrenson:"Well thats 3 good chances they have had in the first 3 minutes of this half"

Motson:"" Yes Mark, you could almost say that they have had 3 chances in as many minutes"

Lawrenson: Errr I thought I just did say that, John"

Sounds like a grand national horse to me.

Just been on the league website and apparently they had a top-4 competition (like rugby) after the season (not sure if it decided the league winner or not). Remembering the tabel above comes from their website I am now confused as to why the site says:

Accra Hearts of Oak, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kpando Heart of Lions all past winners and Berekum Arsenals are competing for honours in the 1.4 billion cedi competition.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko (the "Porcupine Warriors") won for those who are interested.

Not sure of an Arsenal Link, But Feyenoord is definately involved in their name sake there.

Such arrangements make a lot of sense. It doesnt cost the European clubs much and all they need is one Essien type player to do well. The spin offs for the Ghanian clubs are incredible and it improves the world wide brand of football
