Sammy Lee would be on any bookmakers list to take over from Rafa.Originally posted by tomasjj View PostNah, not Sammy.
What about Lippi?
Or Scolari?
Or Del Bosque?
He wouldn't really be in the frame to get the job, but he would definitely be mentioned in press speculation, IMO. Lippi, Scolari and Del Bosque would no doubt also be mentioned as possible successors.

Have to agree, the days of the bootroom boys being nailed on certs for the job have probably gone now that the Americans are in place.Originally posted by Maestro View PostSammy Lee would be on any bookmakers list to take over from Rafa.

Disagree. The way things stand at the minute. It is a huge project to undertake which I believe many of the top managers in the world would love. We have the added benefit of a fantastic history and recent success as well.Originally posted by The Glove View PostThe position we are in now, I dont think any manager in this country would be in the frame.
The same does not apply to the b'ham, villa and man citeh's of this world.

I think you could probably say that about any of the top four clubs. In the event of any of the top four changing managers, I don't see any English managers being offered jobs, or managers currently working here. The top four are so entrenched in that position, and have such a fear of failure they can't really afford to take a chance with a manager unproven at the very top level. The only possible exceptions are Mark Hughes and Martin O'Neill, and that's only because they have experience at managing at international and European level respectively.Originally posted by The Glove View PostThe position we are in now, I dont think any manager in this country would be in the frame.
If we did lose Rafa, there is just no outstanding candidate who is currently based and managing in this country. The top managers here are already at the top 4 clubs. No one else really stands out IMO to recruit from the domestic market.
Personally, I'd be prefer Capello succeeding Rafa when the time comes (which hopefully isn't soon), or Lippi (although I think both of them have been linked with Scum). Juande Ramos would be a great choice also. For some reason Guus Hiddink doesn't inspire me, not that I'd think he'd be a bad choice.White liquid in a bottle = Milk

First choice was Rafa. Curbs was also in the frame. Strachan to judging by his comments.
Mourinho asked about the Anfield job before GH was sacked, about January in fact and was told we were not yet looking to replace Houllier. He has since admitted this and said that he had liked the idea of taking LFC back to the top.
He became one of Chelseas top targets after his Old Trafford antics, but they had him in mind anyway. Once Porto had got to the final he was the undouted first choice and was offered the job, which he accepted.
He was never on the LFC shortlist and was never interviewed or offered the job. Why this was is open to debate. Judging by his impressive record I would say it was either down to us knowing he was joining Chelsea or down to his antics.Forwards.......

In agreement with what others have said on here, I remember reading in Balague's book that we no longer considered Mourinho after those touch line antics at OT. If you consider some of the preposterous things he says and does it seems those touchline antics were very telling. Ungracious and indignant man whose characteristics do not sit well with the spirit of LFC IMO.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostFirst choice was Rafa. Curbs was also in the frame. As I said, the position we are in now, no managers in this country would be in the frame.
Which is what you have just said.

Not sure Ballague could know Mourinho was chalked of the shortlist. But I see what you are saying with regards to Joses personality and traits. To be fair to him I think he just plays to the crowd and I think he feels his antics are necessary in order to keep his head above water at Chelsea, who are in danger of getting Real Madrids approach to football.Originally posted by Dhavlos View PostIn agreement with what others have said on here, I remember reading in Balague's book that we no longer considered Mourinho after those touch line antics at OT. Jose Mourinho has been fantastic for Chelsea and yet they still tried to get Klinsmann in as coach! FFS!Forwards.......

His biggest mistake (when coventry where relagated) was depending on Craig Bellamy to score all his teams goals. I remember towards the end of the season on match of the day he said " If Craig scored half the chances he was given we wouldn't be anywhere near where we are now.." which i always thought was very harsh (but true!)
He wont be the last manager to make that mistake...If Rafa left he'd be my first choice...purely for the fact that I've never really enjoyed are football as much since Roy Evans left....
Quite right, like it or lump it, we would have come closer to winning the league with him in charge than we have under Rafa.

I agree, but only by virtue that we'd have done nothing in Europe meaning we could concentrate more on the league. The league is the No.1 target no doubt, but I must say I've enjoyed the return to the big European Cup nights at Anfield and I am delighted we got Rafa in.Originally posted by Reds08 View PostQuite right, like it or lump it, we would have come closer to winning the league with him in charge than we have under Rafa.
Whats more he enjoyed a great tenure at Madrid as Youth coach and knows what is required. I was sorry to see Heighway go but I feel our Youth set up sounds very promising. This is the benefits of having a manager for a long term, stability and progress with the emphasis always on the future and not just the present day.Forwards.......

Thought they were talking about Strachan? The bloke he quoted was anyhow. And big money or not JM has still done a cracking job. He was class at Porto and is class at Chelsea. Top manager IMO.Originally posted by Morphorino View PostI'm sure the 300odd million difference might have some bearing on thatForwards.......
