he will not be cheap and i do agree if we spend well this summer there may not be a huge financial outlay needed next year (unless we get the above mentioned loan deal).... we have to buy macherano at the end of next season and he wont be cheap either !!!

cisse, bellend, garcia, sami, speedy all could realistically fetch us a combined 18 odd million which should fund 1 and a half decent wingers with the yanks coughing up the rest of the kitty for the other half of him

buy right now and its back to domination ............. and much more importantly annoying the blue ****e and the manc scum !!!!!do it rafa
No point in signing him to play on the wing IMO

So the £20m quoted is just a loan deal really that you can't extend without paying another "transfer fee"?

i understand that on the wing would not be his ideal position, but him or a winger ?? id take him... steve aint a winger either !! look at tit ronaldo look how often he cuts in and how many he scored this year (manc ku-nt)

tevez has good pace, good dribbling ability....... albeit an ugly ******* id still love to see him in the famous red

I'm just speculating here, but surely he must have a contract with MSI that will eventually run out and need renewing? He can't have sold his soul to them eternally. If he has got say, another 4 years left with them, then I suppose it could be another glorified loan deal.

Eventually I would have thought he would be owned outright by the club he chooses to sign with.

I like the idea of taking him on loan and buying him next season. This way we can spend big on a winger this summer which shouldbe a priority!!

actually it is quite a significant amount, equivalent to the entire payroll for one of their american franchises! the payroll totals for 2006 (the last available figures) for entire rosters were:

                          Texas Rangers ... $68,228,662
                          Dallas Stars ... $44,367,000
                          Montreal Canadians ... $43,095,000

bear in mind that in the US leages there are no transfer fee's, players are traded because their contracts are guaranteed by the league and transfered from one team to another when a player is traded. while i'm sure they're learning the ins and outs of the football transfer market, expectations of "shed loads of cash" and a willingness to spend such amounts on one or two players within the same window might be a little off mark.
when things go wrong, don't walk away.
                          that'll only make it harder.

West Ham tried him on the wing and he was a massive flop. He is a striker, simple as.No point paying a massive fee if he's not going to play in his proper position.

Are we a club that buys superstar strikers and plays them on the right or something - Diouf, Cisse. Even Gerrard reffered to it as the graveyard shift when GH was manager.

I would say that the situation is similar to that of Rooney, when he first came united tried to play a 4-3-3 type formation with him playing on the wing - didn't work. However they played a different system last year where all the other players understood their roles and Rooney occasionally was played as a leftsided forward/wingare and did fairly well.

I doubt it would be the formation/option of choice but I think that Tevez could play a similar role. I would think though that like Rooney he would be most effective as a forward playing off a main striker.
