Promising Liverpool youngster Emiliano Insua will tonight star in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada as his Argentina side begin their quest to retain the title with a tough match against the Czech Republic in Ottawa.
Argentina - with the help of Barcelona's Lionel Messi - won the tournament when it was held in Holland in 2005 and are favourites to triumph once again this time despite such a difficult opening match.
For Insua, a full-back who joined the Reds on an 18-month loan deal from Boca Juniors back in January, it will provide great experience as he plans to make the step up this season from being a regular in Gary Ablett's reserve side to pushing for a first-team place. The Argentine made his debut against Portsmouth in April and Benitez clearly has big plans for the skilful defender.

Netherland 2005
Winner: Argentina
Runners-Up: Nigeria
Third: Brazil
Fourth: Morocco

adidas Golden Shoe: MESSI Lionel (ARG)
After losing out to the USA in their first match, Argentina never looked back as they laid claim to a fifth title at the fifteenth instalment of the FIFA World Youth Championship. Pre-tournament sensation Lionel Messi could only look on hopefully from the bench while his mates struggled against the Americans in their opener. But after coming on at the half, he made an immediate impact and never spent another minute off the pitch.
UAE 2003
Winner: Brazil
Runners-Up: Spain
Third: Colombia
Fourth: Argentina
adidas Golden Ball: ISMAIL MATAR (UAE)
adidas Golden Shoe: JOHNSON Eddie (USA)
2003 ended on a high note for Brazil, as the youth team capped a splendid 2002/2003 season with a world title triumph in the United Arab Emirates. What with the 2002 senior title and the U17 success in Finland, the harvest has been quite simply exceptional in scale.
Argentina 2001
Winner: Argentina
Runners-Up: Ghana
Third: Egypt
Fourth: Paraguay
adidas Golden Ball: SAVIOLA Javier (ARG)
adidas Golden Shoe: SAVIOLA Javier (ARG)
With a highly flexible 3-5-2 formation, José Pekerman's Argentina dominated from start to finish and ran out deserving winners of this tournament with seven wins from seven games.
Nigeria 1999
Winner: Spain
Runners-Up: Japan
Third: Mali
Fourth: Uruguay
adidas Golden Ball: KEITA Seydou (MLI)
adidas Golden Shoe: PABLO (ESP)
Spain put an end to South American supremacy in the FIFA World Youth Championship, Brazil and Argentina having carved up the three previous tournaments between them.
Malaysia 1997
Winner: Argentina
Runners-Up: Uruguay
Third: Republic of Ireland
Fourth: Ghana
adidas Golden Ball: OLIVERA Nicolas (URU)
adidas Golden Shoe: ADAILTON (BRA)
José Pekerman's charges made it two FIFA World Youth Championship titles in a row in Malaysia, overcoming Hungary, Canada, England, Brazil, Ireland Republic and Uruguay along the way. Technically and tactically outstanding, the Albiceleste deployed a floating 3-5-2 formation which constantly created a threat on the flanks and left no space at the back.
