That he helps us win the league. I don't care how good he plays or how many goals he scores as long as he help us win the league.
He won't be the only big signing this summer IMO and that will take some of the pressure of him.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

To me it boils down to his mentality.
He seems to have the lot in his locker - although someone who knows the player better might be able to pull me up on that - but for the first time in his career he'll have to cope with a massive weight of expectation (and transfer fee).
If he handles that, he'll be a success here IMO.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

If he didnt have the correct mentality Rafa would not have bought him...........end ofOriginally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostTo me it boils down to his mentality.

He hasn't got 20 league goals a season in his locker in my opinion (He may get 20 in all comps). So for anyone to expect that would be harsh because he has never achieved it in Spain. From the little i've seen he is a quality all round player but not an out and out goalscorer......time will tell just how good he is though!

Bottom line is that he doesn't stand a lesser chance of succeeding based on our past buys, than he does of succeeding because we paid a whole bunch for him.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostBecause neither have been failures. Well, Crouch hasn't - he's more than justified his fee and purchase - and the jury would have to be out on Kuyt. He did pretty well at times last season, and there's no way he deserves to be named in a list alongside the likes of Diouf and Cisse.
I think he's talented enough to be a big hit for us, but that said Rafa's taking a big chance with this one. Then again no risk, no reward.
Going round in circles here, proof of the pudding is in the eating.I hate Polanski

I expect him to be a bigger threat than we have had, when Rafa decides to play 1 up front, simply because thats what he does, did, with Atletico. Also when we play 2 up front Id expect him to free Dirk up to do what he does best....put it about UP FRONT not in c.m!! I cant wait for that because I really think that by buying Torres we have in effect bought 2 strikers...Kuyt will now be able to concentrate on that.
Goal wise Id expect 15 league goals barring injury, 5-6 C.L goals and a couple in the f.a cup...he wont play in any other will he but thats still a healthy return of 20-25 goals in all comp in his first season.
Excellent purchase and with the merchandising increase a very very good buy.

I think he has a favourable goalscoring record to Shearer's at the same age. Shearer, of course, went on to become a prolific goalscorer at other clubs. Is there any reason not to believe Torres can't do the same? He'll be playing in a better, more successful side.Originally posted by Cambo7 View PostHe hasn't got 20 league goals a season in his locker in my opinion (He may get 20 in all comps). I think he'll need the first season to settle (i hate saying that, it gets said every summer!) then he'll be class. Working with Rafa long term can only improve him IMO.
Also, doesn't it feel nice to finally go out there and spend big money on a big player? Its like signing Stan the Man all over again

I'm happy we finally signed someone in the clibre of Torres but I still have some reservations.
Many times during the season he failed to show up in games because either he was marked out of it or AM team as a whole did not perform. So a bit of mentality issue here.
Another thing that worries me is the physical demands of the Premiership, I think if he don't grasp that he will struggle, sadly.
On the positive side, he is a goalscorer of the highest level. Some goals he scored last season were out of this world.
In addition, he is a fast player with a good touch.
My expectations, settle in early and score at least 20 goals in all comps.18-5-7-8-3

Excellent point we could cash in big time on his name.
