For me, the most important thing is this: That Steven Gerard look him in the eye and say "Welcome to MY club. The pressure is on me, lad. I'll make sure you get the service. All you need to do is bang them in." Seriously, the kid has been carrying the passionate expectations of a mediocre club for years now and he'll be out to win hearts and minds just like he had at Atletico. I think he will take time to adapt and I think he will press himself to impress, which all new signings do. If he has the confidence that quality teammates are behind him 100% that, when Olof Melberg comes crunching in on opening day away, our boys have his back, I think he will thrive. He's carried massive expectations for years without much support at all; I think he relishes this chance to show what he is truly capable of.
My prediction is 14 in the league, due to Rafa's rotation policy and the frequency with which he plays a solo striker. That said, I think playing Torres and Crouch in Europe, we'll torture people. 22 total.
"Our legacy begets an excellence that surpasses the particulars of who produces it." -- David Carr
My expectation of Torres is for him to (hopefully) settle quickly and start scoring. He is only 23 but the lad was made captain of AM at 19 FFS!!! He has to have a strong :Rafa:menthality:Rafa: to take that responsibilty on board. No other of our previous striking flops have had that in their locker. He is a very talented lad who has a very decent scoring record while playing for a Spanish mid table team and his goal scoring record can only improve* now that he'll be playing alonside World class players at THE greatest football club under the guidance of THE greatest football manager in the world.
*If/When he adapts to the EPL, which I think he will cos he's seems to have a good head on his shoulders for a youngster
"The Liverpool offer arrived and I told the club to listen to that offer as that is the team I wanted to play for" - El Nino 03/07/07
I will be happy with 15 goals in the league, and injecting some excitement into our play. I also expect Kuyt to become the poacher. Torres is a supremly talented player, and he will make others around him better.
Just dont let him take the penalties Rafa. hes ****e at them

"looking through your posts since 2007 and what you have consistently written about my football team I have come to the conclusion that if you had 1 more brain cell you would be a plant .. your father was a hamster and your mother smells of elder berries, I fart in your general direction ..." Nicey
I think he will do well, but it will take some time to adapt. We've known about Torres for a long time, but he is still only 23, and could, potentially be one of the world's best.
A major factor though is that he plays on average 40 games a season, so to suddenly increase that by 50% will have quite an impact on the youngster.
I think this is a fantastic signing for us, and together with the new contracts signed, I think the new owners have given a really positive signal of intent.
"The definition of insanity is not running into the same wall again and again; it's expecting a different result every time you do it."
i think this may herald a change in rafa's over negative tactics as for once we will now have a front line with pace, skill and wont lose the ball everytime it gets kcocked to them
Rafa is obviously a very intelligent manager...perhaps he may learn that with the team we have, we can steam roll 90% of the teams in the premiership
I could not agree more.
This is a signing of intent, and I believe that we will play much more free flowing and attacking football this season, at least in the premiership.
I think Rafa realises that you cannot win the PL by being cagey, and looking at the way the scum, chavs and gooners have won the EPL over the last decade or so, they have all been very very positive and played attacking football.
In terms of the Champions League, I think Rafa will use the same tactics that he has for the last few years as we make life very difficult for the continental teams.
I am looking forward to watching us next season, because I think we'll be a different type of team.
It's a pity about Luis leaving though, as he was a flair player who i really enjoyed watching.
