That's the thing though, I got the impression that it wasn't actually a loan deal, but the technicalities meant we should treat it as such. Again though, it's all the wildest speculation

It might be that this is a simple loan deal, and from MSI, but we have satisfied the league that they have no control over Mascher's contract etc whatsoever for these 18 months. **** knows. Whatever way this deal was structured, it will surely have been done in a way that safeguards MSI's investment. So there's no way Mascherano will be getting a Bosman in 18 months time, not unless MSI are a bunch of morons.

yup but that indicates that he isn't on loan from west ham but from msi where he has a much longer contract, in 18 months time we either pay up those millions they want or he goes back to them and they might have him under contract for a few years more...

Isn't that 3rd party ownership then?

yes but like i said berfore the FA were satisfied with the deal as it had a clause in it that would make the move permanent, and they didn't ok the deal untill that clause was in it. so it's probably ok to do loan players from a 3rd party if you intend to sign them. thats the same thing they are talking about tevez, 6 million a year for two years and then a buckload of cash after that to complete it (thats how it's been reported)

It's 3rd party ownership that we own Guthrie but he's on loan to Bolton. The rules are more complicated than that, it's about the influence they can exert rather than ownership. Frankly none of it really makes any ****ing sense.

same thing went on for everton and fernandes FA wouldn't agree to the contract unless there was a permanent clause in it, do to the fact he was owned by a third party...

For example, (purely speculating on one way around it here) we could have actually bought him but have agreed to pay £1.5m up front, followed by £250m after 18 months, meaning we own the player but in effect it is a loan because we will surely default on payment after 18 months, with it stipulated that in this case ownership is transferred back to MSI. Alternatively there may be a realistic fee already agreed for us to keep him after the 18month period.
