The striker, 16, is joining Liverpool from Barcelona and was given a tour of Anfield and the club's training facilities by Rafa Benitez this week after the youngster earlier had signed a three-year contract.

Liverpool beat Chelsea to land Dani, with the Blues' Spanish scout, Juan Cruz Sol, recommending him to football chief Frank Arnesen.

"I am happy and excited about the chance to play for Liverpool," said Dani, who is also immediately taking English lessons to accelerate his acclimatisation.
Good to see such passion and excitement from even our youth players.

On another note, why do so many good youngsters decide to leave Barcelona.

Because we can offer them pro contracts, it's not possible to sign pro untill you're 18 (or is it 17?) in Spain. Also the thought of trying to break into the Barca team ahead of Henry, Eto, Ronaldinho, messi, Dos Santos and that other you lad who's name I've forgotten must be difficult.

Barcelonas B team got relegated to the third division.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Similar to Italy in that you don't have the same structure to work your way up and develop in a (semi) competitive environment. At Liverpool, he can train with the reserves/first team, play for the reserves/first team (unlikely at the minute) and follow a definite path to becoming a fully fledged member of the first team squad.

Also, we are paying him lots of cash.

Arnau Caldenteny Riera (who prefers to be called Arnau) (Pronounced "Ar-Now") (born October 1, 1981) is a Spanish footballer. He recently played for Premiership side Sunderland but was released from his contract at the end of the 2006 / 2007 season.

Arnau signed for Sunderland on a free transfer on August 11, 2006 from Barcelona B, and made his debut in the 3-1 defeat to Southend at Roots Hall on August 19, 2006. Was sent off 3 minutes into his carling cup debut against Bury F.C which Sunderland lost 2-0 at Gigg Lane. After returning from suspension, he was then sent off after 44 seconds against Colchester and spat at a female fan as he made his way to the tunnel.

Arnau was dropped to the reserves where he was sent off after 2 minutes of his first game for kicking Hull City's Jonathan Walters in the face. He spat at the referee after the red card came out and was banned for 10 games. In his return to the reserve team, he was sent off after 3 minutes against Darlington when he repeatedly punched Ricky Ravenhill in the face.

He was born in Manacor, Majorca and can play in a defensive or offensive midfield position.

He played for Real Mallorca's youth team aged 18 and played for Balearic Island selection U17 when they were champions of Spain.

Aged 18, he moved to Mataro (on loan from Mallorca) in Spain's Second Division B. A year later he moved to Barcelona ‘B’ where he was an ever present in the side which won the league in 2000. He stayed with Barca until 2006 and trained with first team in Peralada in 2004.

He made sub appearances for first team in 2004-05. He also played with first team in friendlies v Marseille 04/05, China 03/04, Shaktar Donetsk 03/04.

After falling out of favour at Sunderland, and struggling to establish himself in the first team, Riera joined Southend United on a months loan, the team against which he made his Sunderland debut. In January 2007 Arnau returned to Sunderland AFC but is now looking for a new club.
