    Ray Putteril

Can he make it as a player at LFC?

I saw the snippets of him from the youth FA Cup final on the season review DVD and thought he looked OK TBH. I know that's not much to go by so I'm asking if anyone has seen enough of him playing to give a balanced opinion of if he can cut it. He looked a bit lightweight from what I remember? Does he play at LMid?

I saw the Crewe match thread and pleased to see him get a run and rewared with a goal so would like to hear more about him if possible.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I thought he was great in the home leg against Man U last season in the Youth Cup, but I haven't seen any more of him to be honest. Looked really good with the ball at his feet and was always beating his man consumately.

Obviously he played in the second half at Crewe and scored a good goal but he did very little else. To be fair, the whole second half was flat but one thing that goes against Ray Putterill - and Jay Spearing - is that he is very short.

These days, footballers have to be athletes and *generally* (in midfield especially) players are over 6' tall like Ryan Babel whereas Putterill is about 5'8" I reckon. I'm sure it's one of the reasons John Welsh and Davie Thompson never made the grade yet Stevie G did. Clearly, some short players will still make it like Mickey Owen but you have to be an exceptional footballer to make an exception and I don't think Putterill has enough to offer.

Jay Spearing, however, I thought was excellent in the first half at Gresty Road but with competition from Gerrard, Alonso, Sissoko, Mascherano and Lucas (if he comes) I don't see him making it either unfortunately...

There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.

A tough-tackling central midfielder. He's far too short to be a top central defender.

No, the only reason Welch and Thompson never made it cos they weren't good enough. SWP and Aaron Lennon are both midgets yet most Premiership clubs would love to have either one, especially Lennon. If you're good enough, then you'll play. All it means is that you have to be a very skillful or quick player when you are the size of an Oompa Loompa because you clearly can't match up physically.

Claude Makelele has been the best holding midfielder in world football for years and he is a midget. If you are good enough you will make it.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro

Cannavaro's 5'9". OK, so he's the exception - just saying like.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Of course, there will always be exceptions (like Mascherano or Makalele) but I think the point is that it's easier to make it if you have more athletic qualities, stature, etc. I'd have thought there's no real argument about that.

Riise isn't a top footballer purely on his footballing talent, is he?

I was just making a point.I agreed with him.You have to have that little bit extra these days to make it

i`d say he`s a top footballer despite his footballing talent.

I understand RS4's concerns over the lack of height but does Putteril have other attributes to give reason why he could make it in the big time?
