    Liverpool free-kicks

We have some good free-kick takers in the squad. Especially in Gerrard, Alonso and Aurelio. Gerrard and Alonso took almost every free-kick (indirect or direct) in the past season. Now they're leaving some chances for Aurelio, Risse etc.

The question is... Who is the best direct free-kick taker?

I went for Aurelio for purely technical reasons although there's no doubting that Riise can really strike them

Aurelio looks the best bet. Closely followed by Alonso.

i think aurelio will take most of our close to the box free kicks and gerrard and riise will take the long ones

Agree! Everytime I see Stevie or Johnny Riise pass the ball or sth like that instead of kicking it into the net, I go crazy! But sometimes these routines work, though... :whatever:

Just confirmed the populist opinion Aurelio.

Fancy him to bang in a few this season.

                I want Alonso
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went for Aurelio, from everything I have seen so far he looks like the best

Aurelio really can bend the ball, with accuracy too.

I went for Ab Fab to take them as well although only if there central or perfectly set for a left footer, although sayihng that it should be mixed up a bit to keep opposing keepers and walls guessing whether it'll be the craft and guile of Aurelio or a JAR smash.

On the right or central to right hand side then Alonso would be better placed to take them with his accuracy on dropping one into the box

I'd pick Reina ffs if it meant we stopped this touching the ball onto Riise to smack straight into the wall. One great goal against Man U means he is seen as a freekick specialist.

Aurelio seems very capable as I reckon Pennant or Gonzalez.
"What's your favourite Beatles album then?"
"I think I'd have to say....Best of the Beatles"

Not sure about Pennant being a specialist freekick taken, but Gonzales can certainly hit them. Scored one or two good freekicks from distance for Sociadad last season. I think a few will be supprised with his range of shooting this season.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                          * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs
