If we're not in for another left-sided player then we have to pray Kewell stays fit or we're going to have another season of absolute crap down the left.

This was our problem last season when we played, in no particular order, Arbeloa, Riise, Warnock, Gonzalez, Zenden, Aurelio, Garcia, Bellamy, Kuyt, Insua and Pennant in the LB and LM positions. That is 11 players for 2 positions which is never going to get you the consistency and fluidity to play that a team needs to be successful. Compare this to the right when it was pretty much Finnan + Gerrard or Pennant, with Arbeloa having a couple of games towards the end of the season.
When did Kuyt play LM, I don't remember seeing him there? And didn't pennant start a game on the left, or just switch during games? Agree about consistency but Rafa doesn't and will no doubt make as many changes this season, combined with injuries.

I don't think the old Kewell will return but when he has played in the last couple of seasons he has shown that he offers very good balance to our team and he understands what Rafa wants from him. I think he could be invaluable to our squad next year even if he isn't the player some people believe he is.

Specifically against Everton at home. We started 4-3-3 but Kuyt ended up spending a lot of the game playing in LM as we struggled to get a goal.

Personally I thought Riise did a good job at left wing in the Champions League, particularly against Barca and would look decent with someone solid like Heinze behind him. He may not have all the tricks, but he can get down the line, get the ball in and score a few. Plus Aurelio looked good just before he got injured and has got a superb cross on him.

                      From .tv:

Harry Kewell has joined up with the Liverpool squad in Hong Kong earlier than expected following his country's surprise elimination at the quarter-final stage of the Asian Cup. The Aussie winger immediately caught a flight out of Vietnam to join up with his club-mates in time for their first training session at a baking hot Mongkok Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Will he go to Hong Kong??

He seems to never be with Liverpool, either he's off training on his own to get back to fitness after injury our away with the Aussies........

I bet he's only met the rest of the squad a few times since joining
