    Liverpools Whizz Winger

On loan winger from Liverpool - Paul Anderson, believes his super speed will be just the ticket when the new football season starts on August 11th.

Anderson's natural pace has given Swansea manager Roberto Martinez extra options in midfield and could be the key to success in his hunt for promotion to the Championship.

Like Martinez, Anderson is also a fan of floor based football rather than the route one approach of Martinez's predecessor - Kenny Jacket.

    Paul Anderson said:

"I was definitely up there with the fastest. Not many would beat me in a sprint; Craig Bellamy was probably faster and Mark Gonzales."

"When I was 13 I could do the 100m in 12 seconds – I’m not sure what time I could do now, but I know I’m faster."

"And I’ve seen the massive pitch at the Liberty, which will suit my speed greatly – but I’d like to think there’s more to my game than just pace."

"I’ve got every hope of making it at Liverpool. I’m still only 18 but to make the break- through at a club like Liverpool you need to be ready for that step up."

"I’ve been playing reserve football and it’s not a bad standard when you come up against international players."

"But Rafa and I both wanted this move to happen – the club wouldn’t allow it last year, but when Swansea came in last month it was the right time."

"After the deal went through a lot of people mentioned the Spanish connection to me."

"I think some of the younger Spanish lads know the gaffer and there’s definitely the same philosophy at the clubs."

"Rafa and Roberto have got the same ideas for football and that’s why this move probably happened."

"They both want to get the ball on the floor and play it and it suits the players they have. They’re very similar in that sense."

"I’ve certainly not given up on making it and that’s why I want to do well at Swansea and give myself that chance."

Great to see the young lad get some proper football under his belt. Non of the reserve-team bollocks. He's got some good potential, I don't know about now, but his finishing/strength was a big suspect, but this was before he went off the radar a little bit.

Got some real high hopes for the youngsters this term, with so many having been brought in, there should be at least some outings for them in early cup rounds or so. I'm sure Rafa will do something similar, otherwise why bother getting all those youngsters in?

Pity he couldn't go to a championship team at least, but we'll see what happens for him.

I would rather he was at a well coached team who play football in the right way than a **** team in the Championship where he would fail to get games because of his style rather than his level of ability. I think this loan could be the making of him.

Doesn't have to be a **** championship team does it, there's 20 odd teams and i'm sure he's a better winger than probably half of the ones in that division. The good coaching is fair enough, but he needs to be around good quality players as well

but few of them play with genuine wingers. Teams who play the ball on the floor are rare and the top teams would only be interested if there is an option to buy, which if we think he might make it we are unlikely to offer. I know what you are saying but in the last few seasons the Championship has been mostly a physical league with little quality. At 18 I think that League One provides a good level of competitive football, not everyone has to make the break through as young as some people assume.

I can see where you are coming from I'm just not sure that the advantage of a loan to the Championship is as big as some make out and that there are that many teams who would take a chance on a winger who was not physically strong in that league. There would be no benefit sending him out on loan to play as an occasional sub.

fair points, it's a difficult one, Rafa obviously thinks it's a suitable move for him, lets he does well regardless, maybe next season he'll be looking at championship or prem level teams then, a bit like guthrie has this season

I think he has more of a natural instinct that Guthrie does, based on what I have seen, his for has dipped though over the past year or so, hopefully this move is exactly what he needs to rejuvenate himself.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                  * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

That's pretty quick. My eldest lad, Will (who many of you met in Athens) is 15 and is the ISA North of England 100m Champion. His PB is 11.58 seconds but he won the northern final again at Robin Park in Wigan in June with a niggling quad injury which slowed him down to just under 12 seconds. (He also won the long jump final! )

He represented the North in the national finals at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham a week later but finished fifth in the 100m and fourth in the long jump because of his injury. The English Schools' Athletics Association junior 100m winning time was 11.48 seconds at the same stadium last weekend.
There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.
