You'll never win anything with kids

But can we? looking at this rather large selection of players there looks to be a lot of promise coming through the ranks, we look a little light in midifeld, but a few names here wouldn't look out of place in a carling cup team at least:

    ----------------Nemeth/Brouwer----Simon/Lindfield

    ----------Leto/Putterill----Flynn----Duran----El Zhar/LeTallec

    Insua/Threlfall---Spearing/Roque---Hobbs/Paletta---Peltier/Derby

    -------------------------Mihalov/Hansen

Of course this is discounting loan players like Antwi, Hammill, Anderson, Guthrie and a few others where we are well stocked in their particular position

i'd imagine sissoko would be taking up one of those midfield slots for the CC, possible leiva too?

barring get arsenal early on again, i'd have high hopes to get pretty far with that team

Don't forget David Martin in goal who could be third or even second choice keeper this season if Scott Carson goes out on loan again.

Also in attack there's Besian Idrizaj who scored a hat-trick at Wrexham but could also go out on loan again.

Finally, Jay Spearing is more a defensive central midfielder and Jack Hobbs has been playing there pre-season.
There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.

I did think about him, but I thought he'd be more likely to feature in the youth side

I know mate but I was trying to stick to 2 players per position, plus I think both of those will go on loan as you say, particularly Martin

In your Norwegian thread you think Martin will be going to Hong Kong which would put him ahead of Mihaylov. I can't see Rafa letting both Martin and Carson going out on loan.

But Carson isn't going out on loan as Rafa told him, so point still stands

Yeh Daniel Pechecho (sp?). Without seeing him play, I think he is our biggest talent along with Insua. He was one of Barca's promising youngsters, so he must have something about him.

What worries me is that his nickname was the killer, which was the same as Diouf's wasn't it?

How much of that lot have you seen, to be able to call them a 'lot of promise' ?

Reading Carson's reported comments over the weekend it looks like he wants regular football to get in the Euro 2008 finals (should England make it) and isn't content with a few cup games and a place on the bench.

Scott Carson torn between Liverpool and England
