    Barnes: Reds can't win title!

That's what he said qouted from ***talk. He said that we haven't done enough on the transfer market.

Which means that same as the majority os us thinks that we should have signed a great winger.

I assume this is the interview I saw in the Metro, of all papers, a week or so ago.

The headline was "BARNES SLAMS RAFA'S REDS", with a sub-heading of "No chance of title, says Pool hero".

He actually said something like "Rafa has made some great signings - Torres is a player I like a lot and he will do well in English football - but I think it might be a season or two before the gap on Man United and Chelsea is closed"...

          Words to that effect.

Barnes's track record as a manager & talent for signing players was superb...

Remember his fantastic spell at Celtic?

I know, the squad is a Rafael Scheidt away from being title contenders.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

People should have more respect for a legend such as Barnes. Celtic came too soon for him... don't forget he was working closely with King Kenny at the time.

Well he is right though if you think about it before mouthing off.

we will close the gap on the top 2 teams but i still fully expect us to get 3rd spot at best

I totally agree with Barnes - whilst I expect us to be a lot closer this season, realistically we are still 1 or 2 seasons away at best IMO.

Having said that you just never know - it could click this season.

Who cares if he’s right? I prefer when the likes of Thompson, Roy Evans and King Kenny show their support and always predict the Reds to win no matter what the scenario or how stupid it makes them look.

It may have been honest, it may even prove accurate, he probably would have got slated for saying otherwise, but I still don’t like it.

Biased views and outrageous optimism is more my cup of tea.

From the version I read on Sunday, he said that Torres was the only sure fire first 11 player he bought. The others are squad players in his opinion. Suppose everyones entitled to their opinion. I'm happy enough with the spending. Another winger would be nice like.

Anyway Barnes since we're expressing opinions, here's mine, John Barnes' Football Night was ****e!

Don't ****ing blame me on that ****e!!

I think it's laughable the way some posters react when they hear of an ex-player not being as blindly optimisic as most of us can be.

Most ex-players,Rush and and Aldo aside, tend to be a bit more objective when assessing our title hopes.

I don't give ****e either way but to read some of the **** that gets posted after a comment by an ex player, the usual he was ****e or he's a ******,never liked him,he never made it as a.. etc...... :whatever:
