Finnan signs new deal

    It's an interesting contract this - it clearly shows that age is not really a barrier for Rafa when signing players up - in stark contrast to Wenger.

    Finnan at 31 is no spring chicken; and where as if he'd been at Arsenal, no doubt he'd have been offered a 1 year deal, which I believe is Wenger's policy for the 30+ brigade, it's nice to see Finnan's consistency being rewarded - Rafa obviously sees no reason why Finnan cannot still be performing in the Premiership and Europe when 34.

    Further similarities from his time with Valencia when he had a bunch of OAPs in his defence, if I remember correctly....

      I was actually thinking something similar. I have to say in general I think that Wengers policy has done well for them. Paying a 34 who can only play a fraction of the season in top form the same as when he was playing every game limits the flexibility of the manager in terms of payers coming in. I guess Rafa has more faith in his ability to keep players fit in their playing dotage.

      The future will tell whether he is right in the PL in the way he was in Spain.
