First post so go easy boys and girls.

I think it is safe to say that it couldn't be a better time to follow LFC. The team is looking its strongest in a long time and developments off the field are finally matching our ambition on the field. The spectacular stadium is clearly testament to that.

Few thoughts on the stadium:

1) Would imagine that once planning permission for 60K design gets approval the second application for 76K capacity will be put forward fairly quickly thereafter if we are to meet 2010 target. Perhaps the club is already in a position to submit the 76K application but doesn't want to for fear of holding up the 60K application.

2) I'm guessing the gaps on the kop end are deliberate to allow for the possibility of filling them with seats later.

3) Anfield is our Mecca and it is almost sacrilegious to suggest this, but the new stadium will undoubtedly boost are chances of enticing the cream of international football to LFC.

I think we have to work on the transport links for this issue to ironed out.

The flaw in your arguments is though:

1) Parry was heavily involved in obtaining Investment - therefore in effect he brought G&T and Liverpool together.

2) What's the point in designing the world's greatest stadium if you can't afford to build it? The basic bowl design would have been designed and built if the money had been there - for better or worse. And regardless of anything else, then a 60k capacity would have brought in more revenue than the current 44.5k capacity.

3) I didn't witness any meandering along - however having heavily backed each manager in the transfer market the sad fact remained we couldn't compete. The money had run out... The fact is without some sort of investment we wouldn't have now been able to afford to build the basic bowl design, we'd be "stuck" at Anfield - generating limited amounts of cash.

Fact is Parry was be integral to this whole Stadium planning

1. Yes - found investment out of necessity because they realised that the way they were running the club meant it couldn't sustain itself as a competitive title-challenging club.

2. Arsenal have spent something like £350m on their stadium. Smaller club, less fans, less successful, managed to build theirs for a lot more than what our new design is costing us even now. I wonder how they could afford it yet we needed investment to build ours. Only after Arsenal announced their mega stadium naming rights deal did this become an option for us in part-funding our new ground.

3. We were a team going nowhere fast under Houllier, and our board prefered to back him in the transfer market than invest in the future of the club as a whole. But that's kind of irrelevant anyhow. Fact is Parry and Moores did not maximise the revenue earning potential of the club and that is prt of the reason we were in this mess. I'm willing to bet clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea have made more out sponsorship, merchandising etc when they won their league titles than we did after winning European trophies (Treble in 2001 and CL in 2005), and we're a much better supported club than either of those. A club with no real direction, both on the pitch and commercially off it.
