I think he was lucky with Gerrard in that he was versatile enough to be eased in at full back and play in a number of positions. Gerrard also had a relationship with Owen who was already a first team regular which made it easier for him to make an impact.

The problem for Biscan under Houllier was that he rarely got a run in the first team - let alone one in CM. It is hard to establish yourself when you don't feel you have a mangers full support. Obviously in the end Biscan wasn't good enough to force his way into the team but I can't help feeling that he had the potential to do more for us than he did.

The problem is it is easy to pontificate on the situation from the outside as I have done above, it may simply be that Biscan had a limited level of talent and that he reached his full potential at a very young age.

Talent alone doesn't suffice when you come at a club like ours. Young players often find themselves under increasing strain from the simple fact that it's very competitive and sacrifices need to be made to reach and stay at the top. That's why the key in youth development is to reach out for the largest pool of potential talent available, in order to get an acceptable percentage of players who will make it.

I have no idea but for someone who is supposed to be the second biggest talent behind Leo Messi, i find it worrying that he couldn't get into the Argentina Under 20's squad

Other than somebody mucking about on Wikipedia after we'd signed him who has ever made that claim about him?

He's a decent player with a sweet left foot , who playing wise is more of a Solari than anything else. If he fulfils his potential he'll be a good player not a great one

Someone on another site quoted it from a magazine. Forgot the name of the magazine but the poster was reliable.

True unfortunately. I think Igor suffered more than most from Houllier's 'square peg in round hole' fascination.

It took Rafa 5 minutes to work out that Igor was a CM not a full back or Centre Half. The damage had been done by then though.

It took me less than 5 minutes to work out he wasn't a CM or a full back or a centre half...

                            Do you reckon?

Remember Igor's performance at centre half away to Sunderland December 2002? Compare that to his form under Rafa. Night and Day. Unreal.
