dont think it was the best game ever mate or even close, but it was one of our best ever performances. Some nice team goals in that game.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

the first 4-3 game with Newcastle and the 2-1 win over Arsenal at Cardiff when Owen did the business for us (which he did do from time to time you know).
HLiverpool born and bred.

possibly one of the best team performances ever by us yes, but no-way the best game ever it was so one sided it was untrue. for me not much comes close to the ultimate team performance like the 7-0 thrashing of Spurs back in 1977. best game has to be the first of the 4-3's against the barcodes it had it all.

The first 4-3 v Newcastle - second one was more annoying than anything else as we nearly threw away a 3 goal lead.
The 5-4 v Everton at Goodison, Easter Monday 2001 - Gary Mac from 40 yards. Need we say more?
The 5-0 v Forest in 88 - amazing team performance.
FA Cup final v Newcastle - my first Liverpool memory.
Oh and the 2001 Uefa cup final.

mines the 5-0 ****ting of forest in 1988. Even Tom Finney said it was the greatest exhibition of football hed ever seen in his life. I dont think I will ever see a performance by any team come even close to how good liverpool were that night. Plus, at the time forest were the next best team to us.

Fully agree. I had the game highlights on Betamax and I kept the player just to show my kids how football should be played. It's dead now but not forgotten...Originally posted by paulcooper4mines the 5-0 ****ting of forest in 1988. Even Tom Finney said it was the greatest exhibition of football hed ever seen in his life.
