    Ryan Babel

    I think we're gonna have to be patient with him.

    It's fairly obvious he's definitely got talent - but it's also obvious that he hasn't quite got a natural position. I think he's gonna frustrate us fans before eventually winning us over.

    He has good pace and a good touch but he seems to drift in and out of games and becomes less effective. I believe Rafa will 'sort him out' though and eventually turn him into a decent second striker as I don't see him as a wide man.

      - It's pre-season
      - He's only 20
      - He's moved from a different country hence why it will take some adapting
      - He's learning about his new team-mates and they are learning about him

        Arsenal fans sang "What a waste of money" to Henry for the first few months of his Arsenal career as he couldn't hit a bull's backside with a banjo.

        They only started to accept him after christmas.

            I went around the houses to say that !!

            Somebody on here mentioned him as a possible wide man to be signed earlier on in the summer and I said he wasn't ready IMO - judging from what I saw in the U21 championship. Hope my assessment was wrong.

              It's weird.

              I'm super confident about Torres, I think he's going to be ****ing electric for us.

              But Babel worries me immensely. We've been crying out for a pacey, tricky, imaginative, goalscoring wide man for years and years now. Is Babel really that player ?

              I dunno...hope so.

                I actually don't think he'll start. I think he'll have to be content with subs appearances for the first dozen or so games.
                Just a hunch but that's my reading of the situation. I don't think he's ready to start for us especially with expectations so high.

                I think Pennant or Benayoun will start on the right, Kewell on the left.

                  I think we'll only see the best of him when he's fully adapted to life at LFC. There's talent there but it's up to Rafa to bring it out of him and I have no doubt he will.

                  Whether he ends up playing as an out and out striker or a wide man is anybodys guess but I thought he made some good runs today wich on another day might have resulted in something. He also almost embarrassed James.

                  No way would Rafa have taken a punt on him at £11m maybe £5m he would but you can be sure that if Rafa is prepared to pay that much for a 20 year old it's because he's done his homework.

                    He's not up to speed yet, he's not ready to start in the premiership, but he's a longterm signing, I'm sure of that.

                    That story about Henry is true, there were lots of moaning about him up until Christmas. I remember it distinctly because they were all still upset that they'd sold Anelka and replaced him with "this rubbish"

                      I can confirm your story. I lived about a 5 minute walk from Highbury at the time and knew alot of Gooners. They were always telling me that this guy Henry was ****e.

                      I think he started as a left winger for them just like Babel is supposed to for us.

                        from what i've seen i think we overpaid. 11 million should either buy you the finished product or a player with amazing potential. He seems neither BUT i'd be happy to be shot down at xmas. lad needs to settle and thats what a pre season is all about. fingers crossed on this one i think for all of us.

                            Far to many people are writing him off at such an early stage. It's far to early to judge. I was excited about what his signing could bring and I still am. If I'm proved wrong then fair enough but I have a feeling that in time he will turn out to be a good player for us.
