I think Pako's is one of the best assessments of the coming season I have seen. A really interesting read that.

More new players on the way?

          from Liverpoolfc.tv

PARRY: WE WON'T STAND STILL IN MARKET
          Mark Platt 30 July 2007
Rick Parry admited excitement is high at Anfield ahead of the new season and revealed the club's spending may not yet be over.
As he returned with the squad from Hong Kong on Sunday morning, the Reds chief executive spoke of his satisfaction at the way the summer has evolved in terms of new signings and insisted Liverpool will always be in the market for quality players.

"There's always a lot expectation but there's definitely a special buzz about the up coming season. We're all excited with the new signings we've made and genuinely happy with what we've done," he told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"It was important to get them in as early as possible so that Rafa could have more time working with them. Bringing players in on the last day of the transfer window is never ideal. It was good for our new players to have been involved in the training camp out in Switzerland and then in Hong Kong.

"That doesn't mean to say we'll now be standing still. A lot of clubs have spent significant amounts of money this summer, like Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea. Then there's a number of other clubs who've recently also had new investors, such as Newcastle, and there's still a long way to go before the end of the transfer window.

"If a player becomes available and he's the right player for this club then yes we will be interested."

Regarding Pennant, I think he might make the right side his own this season. His form was good towards the end of last season, and he seems to have brought that back to pre-season. I'm not that bothered about his lack of goals, if he gets crosses in, he's done his job. With confidence from Rafa, and some good performances early on, I think he could make the step up to be a top player, maybe even in the England Squad.

I honestly think that Pennants problems are all mental - nervousness in the CL final for example & poor decision making more generally. He has improved over his time with us and hopefully Rafa will be able to help him as these are traits that are often gained later in a players career - he has the talent IMO to be a very good player for us.

pennant's crosses are pure class and i don't see a problem with his lack of goals. what worries me is that there's nobody getting on the end of his crosses - we don't have a decent header of the ball upfront. hence our lack of goals from corners.

as far as pennant is concerned, i would tend to agree with the fact that his problems are in his head. Last season, he very rarely took people on. every time he did he had the pace to get to the line and every time he did we either scored or there was a good save from the keeper. i thought i was the only one who noticed it till a couple of mates mentioned it.

the question is why he doesnt do this more often and the only thing i can think of is the fact that he doesnt think he can do it so doesnt always try.
                  in january we were doomed.

in august we will rise from the ashes of ****e and march on again

Who do you think would be the fittest(physically) player at the club?
My money's on Riise but Crouchy can run all day apparently but Gerrard wouldn't be too far behind i reckon.

Pennants crosses are often overhit, but there rarely seems to be someone coming in from the left. We could deffo get more goals if we address that. SpeedyG did that a bit last year and had some good chances!

Could it be that a player like Babel rather than an out and out winger might be the way to do this?

Good point. Kewell too if he can find his form of yesteryear. Real point though, is those guys need to learn to make those runs.
