    Firing for Effect.....

is an old Army term used to explain wastege of ammunituion, or what our players do by going to the press saying things like "we must start well", "Chelsea dont scare us" etc etc.

Please guys, heads down, work hard, shut the f...k up and leave the gobbing off to Chelski and Manure.
Those that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law.
Those that killed her, were following the law.

if they're asked a question though what are they supposed to do? i hardly imagine steve finnan is sitting at home, twiddlin his thumbs, thinking "i really must ring the daily mail and get it off my chest that we need to hit the ground running this season"

I can't help but feel that people get over excited by what players say to the media. In general it is good for the club and part of a players job with us to talk to them. Not sure what they are expected to say if 'we have to start well' is off limits.

Most of the comments you allude to in the 'Chelsea don't scare us' quote are headlines not direct quotes from the players. Last weeks Carragher interview seemed to universally get headlined 'Man United don't scare us' when what he actually seemed to say was that Chelsea were still the team to beat.

I thought exactly the same thing mate. All Carragher said is what you have mentioned, but the press jumped on it, and have tried to make a big deal out of it and our rivalry with Man U.
Personally, I'd rather the players did the talking on the pitch rather than in the press, and I don't see what was wrong with what Carragher said on this occasion.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

carragher is a legend, he can say what he likes.....
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

I agree, there should be no mouthing off at this stage of the season - leave that to ***** like Fergiescum and Mourinho.

Besides, recent comments from Crouch and Carra about a good start being crucial will only put more pressure on the team.
