Early 60s Getting there early so my dad and uncles could sit me in the windows at the back.
Early 60's?!?!?
You must be real old
"In fact I’m going to make a promise which will be welcomed by many. If there’s no finance secured by the opening day of the season, I’m going to hang up my keyboard and close KOPTALK down."
Rushie's last game, threw his shirt into the crowd.
Was that the first time he left? If so, that was the game against Watford and he scored the only goal of the game. I was in the Main Stand that day, in line with the Kop End 18 yard line. It was manic enough in the main stand never mind the Kop.
My best personal experience in the Kop was taking my younger brother (an Evertonian) and his mate (a red) to watch their first game in the Kop.
We played poorly that day against Luton and were losing 1-0 going into the last couple of minutes. Despite creating a multitude of chance in the second half, we didn't think it was going to be our day until Houghton equalized and then McManaman (I think) squeezed in the winner in the dying seconds. In between the chaotic celebrations, I still remember my brother's mate disappearing down the other end of the Kop on an sea of celebratory arms. It took us ages to find him after the game.
Another 'memorable' experience is getting my nose broken by a Jan Molby free kick which hit me smack in the face.
My favourite memeory is when I used to pay 2 shillings and sixpence to get in. Thats 12.5 pence for the youngsters
I remember the Kop being 3 shillings (15p), so you started going before me. I also remember that by the turnstiles before every home game there used to be nuns from The Little Sisters of the Poor who used to do collections. This went on for years and years and then one time I realised they weren't there anymore. Anyone know when they stopped collections and why?
