    Bascombe on those possibly departing

The following below is taken from today's Echo for those of you not able to get the echo.

"Meanwhile, Reds boss Rafa Benitez is preparing for what could be a busy week in the transfer market at Anfield.

Jan Kromkamp continues to be the subject of interest from PSV and may yet move on before the end of the week.

Florent Sinama-Pongolle also edges ever closer to the exit, with Lyon fighting off the challenge of several Spanish clubs for the youngster.

Preston are also closing in on a deal for fit-again forward Neil Mellor.

Mellor has only just recovered from injury, but made agoalscoring return in a practice match last week. Preston boss Paul Simpson is keen to secure a permanent deal for the forward"

Damn looks like thursday will be a busy day with last minuted deals hopefully all going through, although i'll be sad to see the boy Mellor going. no word on who is coming in other than the Lucas Neill thing so it may be 3 out 1 in. no real mention of todays rumour about Bolo either

Who, except us daftly enough, is going to pay the rest of his contract up at £60K per week?

And he will have the cheek to walk on a bosman!

I hoped that we could have loaned him out, let someone-else pick up a precentage of his wages. Even if we kept paying most of it it would still save money. I guess his mysterious 'injury' that he couldn't recover from has put the Kibosh on that though.

I suspect he is behind Peltier in the pecking order for the coming year.

Than man's gonna have to start watching the pennies soon, next year's going to be a big come down for him, from £60K a week to £60K a year.

where did ya get this figure from mate. I though he was on around 40k a week
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                    * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

It's been estimated that since Cheyrou was on near enough £60k a week, Diao would have been given a similar contract - they were both bought from the French league, and for similar amounts of money. Makes me sick to my back stomach - but it's no wonder he doesn't want to leave.

Is it really true? I mean paying that much to someone who simply cannot play football sounds surreal. Thank you Gerard Houllier

Why were they offered such insane wages? They were hardly world class super stars who were choosing between Liverpool's, Real Madrid's, Barcelona's and AC Milan's contract offers.

****ing disgraceful. Another reason why I hated Ged.

Still if and when Diao goes he'll be the last of the Houllier deadwood out the door. I dread to think how much their salaries have cost the club over the years .

Why? Presumably they were the next Vierra and needed to be paid accordingly, shame they never materialised into Vierra, and as reminder of the type of contarcts that were going round at our club then, it took us a payoff of £11M to be rid of GH and sidekicks, crazy times indeed
