That is a good call. He seemed to turn good keepers into **** ones.

Pronouncing the word 'squad' at press conferences in a way that always makes me laugh.

Buying Pepe and letting him almost play sweeper, allowing the defence to push up further. (A reason why I don't think Carson will ever cut it at Anfield and should be sold).
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I'm a big fan of Rafa but he can't be given credit for Finnan's performances for us.

Before Finnan joined, he was voted best right back in the country. I.e., he was a cracking player before even he joined us.

His first season under Houllier (Houllier's last as LFC manager), it's no surprise he didn't show his best as the club was a shambles on and off the pitch. Everyone, bar Stevie G, had a stinker that season.

Finnan has merely returned to his normal level after a torrid 03/04 season for LFC.

You must've missed Rafa switching Gerrard to right-back to combat the threat of Serginho. A minor masterstroke from Benitez.

I do not think he is given enough credit for the job he has done (prior to this season) in totally rebuilding a squad in his vision on a limited budget. Particularly when he was left with players like Diouf, Diao, Cheyrou etc etc on very high wages. Very difficult to unload when potential buyers are only prepared < half their wages.

Rafa has almost completed this task and done it as well as anyone could IMO.
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

Finnan has played 3 great seasons under Rafa for LFC. You seem to think he just needed turn his switch back on. The fact that he improved dramatically as soon as Rafa took over and has maintained it for 3 seasons is a great credit to both Finnan and Rafa.

Are you on the wind up?

What exactly was wrong with bringing back Fowler on a free? On relatively low wages, FANTASTIC for morale both amongst the players and fans alike, and had a scoring record of about 1 in 2 while he was at it, scoring some very important goals along the way - including the winner in a Premiership game against Blackburn.

Well said. Very hard to criticise this signing when you consider the manager had to rebuild a squad while continuing to pay wages for the previous managers mistakes. I am thankfull for Houlliers contribution to LFC but it needs to be stated that he (and the board) sanctioned salaries for players that had not earned them. This left Rafa in a very difficult position, because he wants to change and rebuild the squad but the overpaid players do not want to leave.

We are almost rid of this blight on our progress and we now pay salaries for quality players on a structured level.

It is interesting to see what is happening at Chelsea. IMO they are showing signs of imploding due to their signing of Ballack and Schevchenko last year. Their wage structure is way beyond their means, yet they sign Terry on to these wages, why? cos Ballack and Schevchenko are getting it.

Madness! out of control and eventually the oligarch will decide they need to pay their own way. Thats a bit hard with their wage structure! it is larger than the Scum's but at least the scum have a wage structure somewhat relative to their turnover.

how many extra shirts did we sell off the back of it too. marketing genius imo. maybe all those shirts sold helped buy 10 of the best young players in europe potentially
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."
