NEIL WARNOCK has revealed how he bet on Liverpool to lose last season’s Champion’s League final after feeling betrayed by Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez.

In his autobiography the former Sheffield United manager criticises Benitez’s team selection in Lverpool’s 1-0 defeat at Fulham in April – a reault which he cliams cost United their Premier League status.

Warnock writes: “As we arrived at Villa Park on the penultimate weekend of the season, I saw the team Benitez had picked for Liverpool’s visit to Craven Cottage that afternoon.

“Liverpool had beaten Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final the previous Tuesday and I was curious how they would approach the Fulham game.

“But I never thought Benitez would stoop as low as he did. He left out nine of his first-team players. Nine.

“The Champions League final was still more than two weeks away. I couldn’t understand it.

“I hadn’t even heard of two of the players Benitez picked. Seriously. That showed total contempt for us.

“I know he has to look after the interests of his own club. But why rest practically his entire team when the final was still so far away?

“He brought them all back a week later for their last game of the season against Charlton, which was a match with nothing riding on it. I hated Benitez when I saw that Liverpool team. I know that sounds horrible but I did hate him.”
I think Warnock is spot on. After all, he knows all about managing teams that play in the Champions League. He knows all about fielding his players in a meaningless league game two weeks before a mjor final.

I said it in another thread and I'll say it again - he is a ****ing hypocrite as he fielded a weakened team in a midweek game at Old Toilet before a big weekend relegation clash with Charlton.

Nothing is ever Neill Warnock's fault - it's always somebody else's. After a 9 month, 38 games league season the only reason Sheff Utd went down was because we lost at Fulham.......yeah right! If the daft prick had seen the game he'd know that weakened team or not, we should have won anyway.

        The man is a weasel.

Nicking insults off Neil now, huh Slim?

He also fielded a much weakened side in the FA Cup against Swansea - so much weakened that they lost 0-3 at Bramall Lane.

I thought you might like that one!

Well seeing as he is not about at the moment I'm sure he won't mind if I steal one of his put downs.

You couldn't understand it you proper **** as you've been nowhere near a Champions League final :whatever:

Anyway what was our team at Fulham? Dudek, Hyypia, Fowler, Arbeloa, Zenden etc - all of these would ****ing walk into the Sheff Utd team any day of the week. Heck, even Paletta would stand a chance!!

Warnock you are a big gay lizzard driller :whatever:

Warnock was bitterly disappointed when he saw the side Ferguson had picked against West Ham as his own team were preparing to play Wigan Athletic at Bramall Lane. A draw would have been enough for Sheffield to stay up but they lost 2-1 and had to rely on United beating West Ham, which they failed to do, losing 1-0 to Carlos Tevez's goal. United lost only one other league game at Old Trafford all season, in September against Arsenal.

"I felt really let down," Warnock writes. "I've so much time for Sir Alex but he had said he'd play his best side against West Ham. And this was nowhere near his best side.

"And then Carlos Tevez, football's equivalent of a murderer out on bail, had scored the goal that kept West Ham up and put us down. So much for the integrity of the Premier League. So much for fairness and justice in English football."
He hates Benitez, but he feels let down by Ferguson. Whats wrong with this picture.

I just like the way that he left Sheff Utd expecting to walk into another club.

That backfired didn't it! Serves him right, the ****.

To be honest given what their chairman/CEO or whoever it was said afterwards I suspect he jumped before he was pushed. I think a lot of what was said was bluster to keep up appearances.

He's had issues with just about everyone.

I think with Ged it was the Semi-Final of The Worthington Cup and they gave us some rough treatment, if I remember rightly Henchoz spat at Warnock on his way off the field at the end of the match, very un-Hencoz-like (if thats even a word).

I appreciate he has a passion for the sport and he lives and breathes Sheff Utd, but you just cant escape the fact that he is a prize w a n k e r

I remember watching his press conference when he left. I'm sure he said he would change his mind and take the job back if Sheff Utd were reinstated. Arrogant ****...thinks he can walk into any job
