Nicked from RAWK:
In an interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais following Liverpool’s 2-0 win in the opening game of the Rotterdam tournament, Fernando Torres spoke of his hopes and wishes for the new season.
The Liverpool striker was happy with his goal and performance versus Shanghai Shenshua, though feels that: "I am going to have to adapt to playing as the last striker. My new role requires me to employ more direct runs towards goal. I also still have some trouble understanding my team-mates when they talk on the pitch, especially as things move so fast, though Liverpool are a great team and it is important that their new players adapt quickly to their style of play.”
The language barrier though was not a problem in Friday’s game, as he linked up well with his team-mates and scored his first goal for his new club. "With each passing day I realise just how special Liverpool and their fans are. I did not come here for the money, but for the chance of winning silverware. Everything we do, both in Europe and abroad, like for example our recent trip to Asia, is in all the papers and on television, and this shows just how important Liverpool are.”
Fernando Torres’ new team have their sights set this season on adding to the silverware at Anfield, and there is one trophy that all the squad really want to win: “The players all desire the league title because for many it is the only trophy they are missing.”
The Spanish striker has yet to play in front of his home crowd and cannot wait to take his first steps on the famous Liverpool pitch: "I am very excited at the prospect of playing at Anfield”.
Interesting to see that he has changed his style of play. This means he will be the striker that is furthest forward. I always thouht he would be the 2nd striker for some reason.
