    Resting Steven Gerrard

Considering Rafa's stated intention to play Stevie more in the centre this year, the improved options on the right and the 4-way class in the middle, I can see Stevie getting a lighter workload this season. Gone are the days when we could be called a 1-man team.
I'm not knocking Stevie and I'm not advocating rotation at the start of the season when I believe we need to play a settled team to chase a good start .... but there were games when Stevie appeared stale last season, and I can see us trying to manage his time on the field a little more.
When would you rest him? Certain cup games of course. We'd also take him off during comfortable wins last season. Are there league games when it would be reasonable to start without him?
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

For a reputed 130k a week he can play every game and clean the ****ing toilets.

What you do behind closed doors is entirely up to you

I would rest every player at one point during the season. No one player can maintain his performace throughout a season whilst playing every game.

If there was a game to rest him, it would probably be down to a number of factors:
          Who were playing against
          Home or Away
          What games are coming up
          Condition of other players

I'd rest him against a low league team when we are playing at home.

Well ,if our stated goal is to win #19 then Stevie should start every league game if fit. With Xabi, Momo and Mascher and possibly Leiva we have CM enough players for the opening CL games.

I would love to see a very settled League team for the first couple of months with rotation being used for the CL games. Pick our best team for the league games and destroy some of the weaker teams even if it seems like overkill.

                  He doesn't need resting ffs.

Maureen doesn't rotate Fat Fwank, Terry, Drogba or Cech at Chelski - they play every league game. If we are to win no 19 I'd like Rafa to play Stevie in the middle on a consistent basis in the league and have generally more of a settled team this year.

You were actually the one most voluble in criticism of him last year. You only need to look at the NBA. Often a team will play 2 consecutive nights - if the team they play the second night has had a day or two off that team almost always wins. We want to keep our top players as fresh as we can if we are to get the best out of the squad. A tired Gerrard may be better than certain other players who've rested, but as the manager, I'm sure Rafa will be looking to get the best of Stevie.

So you own a thoroughbred racehorse. You strap a note on his back and put some money in his saddlebag and send him off to the chippy do you? No point walking there yourself when you're paying that much money for someone who can do the job.

i think stevie will play less next season, just to give our other cm a chance of first team football. he should play in every major game though, i think he will be left out of say derby at home or other lower league opposition.
