He is a good keeper. Highly rated.

It expect Carson was told he could go out on loan subject to us signing a worthy replacement.
It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.

Whats the use of loaning him again
if he wants to leave then sell him and lets make a profit, one more year on loan means one more year of his contract gone thus price depreciation..SACK FOOKING PARRY..I'll have his bleedin' job

Lets face it unless Pepe's hands fall off Carson's got no chance of replacing him in the next 5 or so years. He'd be better of at another club IMO.

I think its a loan first incase anything major goes wrong with Pepe.

Also maybe Martin will get the bench for the season or the new lad Lozanova??

Isnt Marting going on loan though??
            Lozanova??

As Kurt said, Martin is supposed to be going to Swansea on loan. We've also got the young Bulgarian (international!) keeper, Mihaylov.

He signed a 5 year contract last season so he'll still have 3 years left when his loan is up.

We should get about 5 or 6 million for him, maybe more if he has a good season at Villa, meaning that the £750,000 we paid for him was money very well spent.

He looked quite decent against Auxerre. A bit nervous but you could see that he was a decent keeper.

At the end of the day Pepe is one of the best in Europe and it'll take a very good keeper to take his place in our team.

I'm sure this new keeper has been told that he's playing 2nd fiddle unless there's an injury.

I'm a bit dissapointed that Carson's off to be honest. I hoped he would stay and provide good competition for Pepe.

Villa agree to take Carson on season's loan

                        Stuart James
                        Thursday August 9, 2007
                        The Guardian

Scott Carson has agreed in principle to join Aston Villa on a season-long loan although the move will be delayed for a fortnight if Liverpool fail to sign a replacement for their second-choice goalkeeper today.

That deadline is necessary because Rafael Benítez has until the close of play to register players for Wednesday's Champions League qualifier against Toulouse, raising the possibility that Carson could be forced to remain at Anfield for two more weeks.

                        Article continues
Liverpool and Villa are both optimistic that will not be necessary, with Benítez understood to have identified back-up for Pepe Reina, the club's first-choice goalkeeper. Should the Liverpool manager be in a position to secure that signing today, Carson will join Villa immediately. If, on the other hand, Benítez's plans fall through, he will have no alternative but to hold on to Carson, with the Liverpool manager not willing to consider risking the 21-year-old third-choice, David Martin.

Any delay would be frustrating for Villa although it will not impact significantly on their plans for the opening weeks of this season. Villa entertain Liverpool on Saturday, a fixture which Carson, under Premier League rules, would not be eligible for as loan players are prevented from appearing against their host club. Furthermore, Villa's midweek match against Blackburn Rovers has been postponed, because of Uefa Cup commitments for Blackburn, meaning that possible delay in Carson's arrival could make little difference.

Either way, Villa can at least take satisfaction from completing a deal that looked highly unlikely earlier in the summer when Benitez was adamant that Carson would be remaining at the club to challenge Reina. The Liverpool manager appears to have reneged on that stance after the player made clear his dissatisfaction at starting the season on the sidelines. Carson is believed to have felt that his England place at the Euro 2008 finals would have been at risk if he stayed at Anfield.

Instead Villa offers the chance to play regularly, as he did during a similar loan spell with Charlton Athletic last season, while pressing his claims to challenge Paul Robinson for the England No1 position. Carson's arrival will come as a significant boost to Martin O'Neill after the Villa manager failed to gazump Sunderland's bid for Craig Gordon. Manchester City had also pursued Carson but, unlike Villa, they refused to pay a loan fee for the 21-year-old.

Carson has made nine appearances for Liverpool since joining from Leeds United in January 2005.

Carson to go to Villa if Itandje signs

Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson looks set at the eleventh hour to have his wish granted and will be allowed to spend another season on-loan elsewhere in the Premiership. Carson spent last season on loan at Charlton, winning their player-of-the-season award and finding himself moving up the England pecking order as a result. Rafa Benítez was unwilling initially to allow him to spend this season out on loan, wanting him as his second-choice keeper, but is now believed to have relented, as long as his move for a replacement is successful.

That replacement is Charles Itandje of French side Lens, who was seen at Anfield yesterday. Lens aren’t expecting a massive fee for the 24-year-old but Rafa wants him signed by tonight’s 11pm deadline for new signings for the Champions League qualifiers. Liverpool play the first leg of their qualifier against Toulouse next week.

21-year-old Carson would then be allowed to move on loan to Aston Villa, who will be delighted to secure the services of a player many feel will be challenging Paul Robinson for the role of first-choice England keeper by the end of the season. Carson was allowed out on loan last season because Rafa Benítez was happy to use Jerzy Dudek as back-up to Pepe Reina, but the Pole was released in the summer at the end of his contract and joined Real Madrid.

Manchester City were also said to be looking at signing Scott Carson, but it seems former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson has now missed out. Liverpool are reluctant to actually sell Carson, and would expect a massive fee in light of recent fees paid in the league for goalkeepers.

Itandje has also been linked with Manchester United this week, but failing a last-minute hijack of the deal he should be a Red by the end of the day. Carson would not be allowed to play for Villa against Liverpool this weekend - loaned players cannot face their own clubs.

It looks like we got £2.5m for a years loan for him.

FOOTBALL SPY EXCLUSIVE O'Neill signs Kop keeper on £2.5m season-long loan
                            By Alan Nixon 09/08/2007

Aston VILLA manager Martin O'Neill last night beat Manchester City to sign Liverpool's England keeper Scott Carson and end a day of drama.

O'neill thrashed out a deal that will cost Villa £2.5m plus wages to take the Kop reserve on loan for a year.

Sven Goran Eriksson's City had spent the day trying to haggle Liverpool into selling Carson. Anfield's chief executive Rick Parry pointed Carson in Villa's direction because he did not want to lose him to City, fearing they wanted to buy him too much.

O'neill agreed to take Carson under strict orders to return him at the end of the season and make no effort to make the deal permanent. O'Neill chased Carson earlier this summer - and went back in after missing out on Craig Gordon to Sunderland.

The Liverpool decision is a devastating blow for City - who had been pushing for Carson over the past few days and were given a 'hands off' warning as they closed in on a buy.

Parry warned that Liverpool wanted a staggering British record £12million for him.

The Kop slapped the astonishing price tag on the keeper as Eriksson made a bid to sign him - either for a fee or on loan - in time to play at West Ham in the opening game on Saturday.

Liverpool's opinion of Carson, back from a year on loan at Charlton and now an England squad man, is huge.

That £12m figure is £3m more than Sunderland have just shelled out for Scotland No.1 Gordon.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

We are in poll position here.We have possibly the next England No.1 and a host of teams want him.Good keepers are hard to get and he has experience and time on his side.10-12m for me if we sell.In this crazy market this is cheap.Derby bid 5m for Kenwynne Jones the other day and had it rejected!!!
Carson has played U21 for England, played CL against Juve and had a very good season at Charlton.Other clubs try to shaft us by hiking prices,so we should do the same now.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful

the lad must know that he is isnt as good as pepe. if he was in it for the team then i dont doubt he wouldnt mind playing 2nd string but he is a young keeper who is more interested in his own career (which is fair enough) and his england career and therefore needs to be playing regularly. the only important thing we should make sure is in his contract is that we can call him back if needed
                                in january we were doomed.

in august we will rise from the ashes of ****e and march on again
