Riise tripped trying to go past his man on the left. From the free-kick Gerrard finds space, his deep cross is met by Pennant who was fouling his marker and free-kick to Villa.

Xabi apart not much craft on our passing, a long ball almost sets Arby free but a good tackle forces a throw. Villa win the ball from the throw and look to counter-attack but it breaks down. Very scrappy game currently.

Agger is beaten for pace by Agbonlahor and blatantly pushes him to give away a free-kick on the right, level with the penalty spot.

Barry's free kick is wasted due to a foul by Carew on Riise.

Ball quickly down the other end, breaks to Torres inside the box on his left but screams it high and wide under pressure.

Petrov is in on the right but offside. Would have been 1on1 with Pepe.

Gerrard gets things going, plays it to Pennant who runs inside as it opens up, plays it to Gerrard who trys to place it past Taylor from about 25 yards. Keeper saves down low to his left.

Torres been quiet, had one flash at goal but nothing apart from that.

Kuyt and Pennant link up on the right but it is very tight, no room really and balls run out for a throw to Villa.

How we playing guys, hows Torres doing so far?

SG our best player. All good stuff going through him but there is no flow to our game. Torres had one major shot on goal. Pennant wasteful and annoying. Riise done nowt on the right.

Our passing out of defence is very poor at the moment, Finnan hitting it straight to a Villa player there.

Riise on the left, held up, breaks to Arby, comes to Riise again but his cross driven straight at his man.

Arbeloa finds space on the left but his deep cross is easy for Villa. Quality from wide positions has been "last season" so far. Which is to say not very good.
