Get in! An away win on the 1st day of the season, can't ask much more than that. Thanks for the updates Big Foot, much appreciated. And Red Al, as always, the voice of reason!
"Even men with steel hearts love to see a dog on the pitch". It generates a warmth around the ground that augurs well for mankind and that's what life's about. Trouble is these days you never see a dog on the pitch".
Good result but a poor performance in my opinion. Young was left alone way too much, which was mostly Finnan's fault. And Carew managed to win almost every single header. If these too players can cause us so much trouble, how are we going to deal with Malouda and Drogba?
But still, congratulations to the players, at least they will get a confidence boost.
FT 2-1 3pts. So many good chances. A lot of attacking play to enjoy. SG was superb all match. He had 5 good chances. I thought Kuyt and Torres looked good together. Was impressed with Babel when he came on. Carra superb despite penalty. Riise and Pennant not the answer on the wings but Babel might be. Villa have some pace but were poor to be honest. We deserved to win, no question.
All in all a great start to the season.
Al mate I would agree with all of that although I think Pennant did ok but he didn't offer enough penetration.
Babel came the game was stretched and suited him, to be very critical he really should've scored but we won so we don't need to count the cost of that.
I was really happy to see us attack a lot more Stevie looks like he's determined to win EPL this year and he knows he has the players around him to do it.
Torres and Kuyt looked good and even though we were fortunate for the first goal their movement and link up play created it.
I'm really happy with it overall our first away win so we don't have to be listening to that crap.
Get in Redmen.

finnan was struggling with young's pace and trickery....he has clearly slowed down a bit.pennant had to bail him out a number of times. its a bit worrying to be honest
First few games of the season are all about the result. You can't expect the team to be firing on all cylinders from the first kick. The result is all that matters for me. I'm not going to slate any players today, the TEAM won

MOTM gerrard by a mile....and liverpools worst performer...dirk krap. even risse was better.
Do you even watch with an open mind I think nearly everyone would say Kuyt had a good game today created for others it was his work that got us the goal he linked well with Torres, he had a couple of good efforts.
:whatever:
