You're right. there should be 7 subs allowed, no arguments here, it's a no brainer. Same as video evidence on the goal line. it will happen, both will, it's just that the FA are so full up with thick lazy ****ers that it would take 4 hours to decide if they should have a sprite or a coke.

i was watching a game on ESPN classics where there was only 3 subs allowed!

But i agree 7 subs should be allowed, most squads (including the lower league ones) have largish squads anyway.

Maybe they should say 7 subs total named but two must have come through the ranks?

Actually I agree with the need to increase the Premiership subs bench from 5 to 7; however I'd also bring in a ruling where 2 or 3 of those players on the subs bench have to be 21 or younger and have spent a certain amount of time in the clubs youth program.

The league and teams other than the top teams are most benefitted by the league being competetive and them having a shout at beating even the best teams. Limiting the number of substitutions reduces the already enormous benfits of having a big/deep squad already enjoyed by the big teams thus resulting in a small increase in competetiveness.

It also adds an extra test to a manager look at the Reading vs United game, given a bigger bench Dong or another striker would certainly have been there for United to bring on. As it was we had the delight of seeing O'Shea up front. It is clearly in the smaller teams who make up over half the leagues interests that the big teams have to make hard decisions in this area.

Like I said earlier with certain restrictions I think you can make the increase in substitutions a good thing for the game more generally but if you don't impose restrictions you give further advantages to a small number of teams who are already considerably better equiped due to financial reasons.

Still dont agree, as has been suggested, there are ways in which teams could get up 7 players, there are very limited cases of players not having 7 subs available. For such a competitive and physically demanding league like the Premiership, I do not understand why they still have 5 subs.

With only 5 subs, you need to make sure all of them are quality players fit for the first team.....however with 7, you can throw a youngster into the squad, and if you are trouncing your opponent- chuck him on for some Premiership experience.

The influx of average foreign players has hindered the development of our youngsters more than the number of subs allowed.
