    The coveted #7

In keeping with the King Kenny theme, I got to thinking that with Kewell likely to be off at the end of the season, who deserves the most coveted shirt in football?

Two names spring to mind. Stevie G and Babel. Stevie for obvious reasons, but Babel because he seems to have all the same tools in his armoury that the King had. If he continues to progress then maybe he will earn it.

Stevie should stay with 8. It is HIS number.

I agree with Babel, as he has the potentail to be aworthy number 7 for Liverpool

Another choice could be Kuyt, I know it may be controversial, but he had it at feyenoord and I can see him becoming a real favourite here.

I would retire the shirt, it only seems to bring out the worst in players now.

Clough, Smicer and Kewell are the few that spring to mind, but I’m sure there may be a couple more.

Would Smicer have scored in the CL final in the number seven shirt, I think not.

I agree the number 7 shirt is not the talisman it was the only 3 worthy of it IMO are Callaghan (for those who can remember that far back) Keegan and KIng Kenny

              an outsider could be McMannaman

ever since KIng Kenny the shirt seems to be a curse rather than a Talisman
Lawrenson:"Well thats 3 good chances they have had in the first 3 minutes of this half"

Motson:"" Yes Mark, you could almost say that they have had 3 chances in as many minutes"

Lawrenson: Errr I thought I just did say that, John"

What number did McManaman wear before 7? For some reason I seem to have 17 in my head, but maybe I’m confusing him with Stevie.

                    It was 17.

I don't want to come across as harsh here, but it's way too early to compare Babel and King Kenny.

IMHO I don't expect any number 7 to perform to Kenny's standards. When it happens I will rejoice, but until then let's not expect too much of a player because of the number he sports.

You're right they cannot be compared. I just see some similarities. Kenny will always be the King
