I still can't bring myself to rewatch the final!

After 3 months, I still can't even bring myself to watch the goals it still makes me sick. Is this normal for anyone else? I have seen us lose the 96 FA cup final and the 2005 League cup but I can watch the goals of those with no trouble, I just feel sick thinking about Athens. I don't think I could ever go on holiday there it just brings back to many bad memories, and I wasn't even there!
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was there and it hurt more then than it does now. I've watched the final a few times since and still feel that the ref bent us over and dry humped us without even so much as a reach around.

    ****in ******.
Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.

Yeah same here, haven't rewatched it. I don't really think about it now unless someone reminds me. In which case I think, well, they scored with a handball after we'd bossed the first half, then they took advantage of that situation in the second half. We didn't have much luck, but fair play they capitalised on what came their way. The Athens experience wasn't what it should've been for me. Ah well. Que sera sera. Gutting, but I'm not bitter. Nor am I intending to watch it again

There were some good things to come out of Athens: the support our fans gave the team, even after the defeat, the lessons learnt etc.

But in spite of that, I'm still as devestated as you are. Still heartbroken. Think I will be until we win #6. I've not seen any footage of it since the game, and have purposely tried to avoid it. when the CL proper starts and we'll see the tv intro and Maldini lifting the trophy at the end of the tv titles it will bring it all back. Even when I see stills of Maldini lifting the Cup I feel sick.

But hopefully that same feeling that no doubt the players share will motivate them to go one better this season and win one of #19 or #6, or may be even both.

Fair play Inzaghi is ****ing **** though. Never met anyone who would buy him EVER. I think that makes it worse.

Not a day goes by without me thinking about that final.
              I'm still haunted by it.
I was sure we were gonna win it which makes/made it all the worse.

I have never seen a replay of them lifting the trophy but can remember it clearly with them on the ****ty gantry and the crap camera angels.

I have to say I Think we are going to win the Premiership this season. I have had gut feelings like this in 2005 with the champions league as soon as we beat Olymipikos and as soon as the FA cup started in 2006. I wanted the feeling last season but I just didn't have it. Inzaghi is ****

They were quite fortunate, but I also think they played it the right way. It seems to me they played quite a reserved, discipline game, looking for us to come at them and they were looking to capitalise on any mistakes we made, exploit any space we left when attacking etc. They seemed to deliberately allowed us to come at them while they retreated and looked to catch us cold. Like they learnt their lesson from Istanbul. Completely different to the Manc game where they took the game to them.

Fair play to Milan as well, it worked for them, they played it well without us ever really having the invention to break them down. In hindsight I wish we played it the same as them. Would have probably bored Europe senseless, ended 0-0 and we'd have won it on penos.

As Loco says, ref was deffo a **** and screwed us, but I can't say for sure it made the difference.

Sorry to hear the Athens experience wasn't an enjoyable one for you mate, you should have been there the night after the game, in the early hours at Monastiraki singing LFC songs non-stop. Brilliant, cheered me up no end, and is what trips abroad with LFC are all about. Imagine if we actually won the ****er.

                        I'm absolutely the same.

I was there and haven't seen a a single second of the match on vid, tele or the web. I want to keep it that way.

We wasted a massive chance to lift number 6.

I haven't watched it since, not even highlights.

Not starting Crouch that night was a huge mistake.

For some reason, I was sure we wouldn't, even though I tried to tell myself otherwise

So true. In 2005 you just had the feeling. You knew it was meant to be. Before the Chelsea second leg I KNEW with 100% certainty we were going to get through to the final. And I was so calm about the final facing Milan. But that was lacking in 2007. I was so nervous throughout in 2007. It just didn't seem destined to happen, circumstances weren't right. I think from the moment Milan were allowed back into the CL via the back door, it was always going to be their yr.

In Istanbul I was watching it thinking how great Milan were and just hoped we wouln't lose 6-0. Last time I couldn't believe how **** they were. We would never have lost the second goal if Masher was on the pitch. Kaka was his bitch that night.
