See this is what I think many on here get lured into. Those halcyon days people really do have rose tinted spectacles regarding them

Most if not all of these were grafters who had little outright skill

Anelka does not deserve our club and he is not good enough.

He hardly set the scoring charts last time he was hear and most other players don't like him, he has not been great at Bolton and he was awful in Turkey.
He'll rot away somewhere because he is a waster.

Jamie Redknapp said he was a great guy to work with at Anfield and that all the players really liked him.
His reputation as a young lad has never left him, he turned our season for us when he was here I'd think if we were in need of a striker/playmaker he'd be a very good buy but I don't think we do now.

Just my opinion mate, i doubt will sign him but he's a good player and his attitude has been very harmful to him admittingly

Did Fowler not say in his autobiography he didnt like him and he would never pass the ball? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Kuyt hadn't signed for us when Robbie released that. Or do you mean in an updated version? Mine is an original edition. ****e an all.

                  Anelka??

He signed for Liverpool after Fowler had left if I remember correctly

I think the person you are thinking about was Collymore I'm almost certain Fowler said towards his latter days at the club Collymore became very insular and wouldnt pass to him / anyone

Fowler was referring to the time at City.

I think this thread is a bit rich this early in the season. I like Kuyt for all the reason's above but understand why some are getting itchy. He hasnt been in goal scoring form for a while (quiet late last season).I would like to put my thoughts on it but i need to go a lot further, so bear with me. I will try to keep it as short as possible.

Rafa has come in and had to rebuild the squad to his liking. This has taken longer than he would of liked because we had some crap on big wages that we couldn't get rid of (eg Salif, Le Tallec etc) and a limited budget (eg not Chelsea).

More importantly he has rebuilt the defense and midfield (inparticular) and got players that suit the different ways he wants to play. Crucially though he has a very strong Defense and Midfield that I believe he is pretty happy with (needs cover for CB and a class LB). These players know what Rafa expects in every situation and this allows us to be pretty safe in the knowledge we will not concede too many.

We are now in the situation that Rafa can concentrate on the final third IMO. He bought Kuyt last year, Torres and Babel this year and we have "many possibilities". We will have more next year as well when we buy a winger and possibly another striker.

My point being is Kuyt was bought because he fits Rafa's system in a lot of games. We have played Villa away and Chelsea at Anfield, and our results so far have been good. Importantly they will get better because we are far from the finished article. This team needs time to gel, we should give them that. We should give Kuyt that time too because he is playing quite well if we are honest with ourselves. It's just Rafa's system that restricts his chances.

So if you aren't happy with Kuyt's goal return you direct your criticism to Rafa. Watch out for the backlash though.

If we win the title this year great, cos we will be much stronger again next year as this team continues to develop.
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

I don't know, it's never too early to dismiss Marky's opinion on a footballing topic is it?

I like Marky. He's a joker and the world needs laughter.
                            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.
