I think it's a fair point and it needs addressing.

I was dead against Pennant signing for two reasons - I thought he was an objectionable ****** not fit to wear the Liver Bird on his chest, and not a good enough footballer. I was right about one, and wrong about the other. He's a good player and I've no qualms on that front now, but he has to start adding goals to his game otherwise he starts to become a passenger.

City have a player who plays in the same position - Geovanni - who's started one game and been sub in the other two. ALREADY he's scored more goals than Pennant has in his entire LFC career. He needs to score 5-10 goals a season and currently he's nowhere near even threatening that total.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I cant stand Pennant, but he has done really well against Villa and yesterday. If he keeps that up then he should be fine. But one thing he needs to do is cut out being a ****. Thats twice now, in 2 games, it looks to me that he has been taken off before being sent off.

        Well put....

I do actually like Pennant, he's got obvious pace, quick feet, energy and even a few tricks and flicks these days. He has certainly grown in confidence from his first six months in a red shirt, when I was amongst his strongest critics and often slaughtered him.

But if our attacking midfielders aren't scoring, it's basically up to Gerrard and the strikers, which is a gigantic ask. Too big.

Every single side that has won the Premiership has had attacking midfielders that score goals. Think Duff, Pires, Joe Cole, Ljunberg, Giggs, Overmars etc. It's simple really, if Pennant can get in the box, shoot more and score 5-10 goals this season he will be almost undroppable.

Babel came on yesterday for about 15 mins took a shot and nearly scored. When Babel comes on I feel like he wants to score himself and that's encouraging. That's what I want from our attacking midfielders.

pennant is one of those players that really get to me. he earns so much money and doesnt even try to look like he is trying for the team. until now.

he has started putting the effort in and he has improved so much since the end of last season and for this reason i think he deserves his chance. people will still say that he isnt good enough but only time will tell. he had bags of potential years ago and then he got himself into trouble off the pitch but he genuinely seems to be getting himself right again so fair play to him. maybe he now realises he can be a good player
          in january we were doomed.

in august we will rise from the ashes of ****e and march on again

I agree. The RM is not the problem. The LM on the other hand. Jesus wept!

I think Pennant needs to take the quality of crosses up a notch. Just look at the crosses that SWP provided.

Riise was one of our better players yesterday he caused Essien **** loads of trouble yesterday.
Being honest I thought they all played well yesterday.
Pennant is beginning to show intelligence in his play some good first time balls some give and go's yesterday plus he tracked back really well didn't leave Finnan on his own.
Very positive performance which says to me we can get at any team Rafa is beginning to unleash the beast.

Its not just Villa and yesterday. Since Christmas he has been one of our most consistant players.

Some people choose to ignore that though

Chelsea have a player called Terry, Man Utd have Vidic and Arsenal have Galls who all score about 5 goals a season. Jamie Carragher doesnt come close - should he be dropped if he doesnt improve his tally??

I know Pennant is a midfielder but its clear that his job is to stay wide and get crosses in!! We were crying out for a winger who doesnt cut inside all the time a la Garcia, now we are complaining that they are too wide!!

This is true but as a unit our midfield needs to score more goals and the obvious players to do so are the more attacking midfielders. So Gerrard, Pennant, Riise, Babel and Benayoun all have to contribute.

It is not even really necessary that Pennant gets the goals by cutting in with the ball - a key area where we don't do enough is running into the back post from wide areas when the opposite winger is crossing. A good number of opportunities would be available if Pennant or our other wingers busted a gut to get to over hit crosses a lot of the time.

I like Pennant and when he plays well he adds a great deal to our team. He does however need to work on certain aspects of his game if he is to be a regular player in a team challenging for the title. He has shown already in his time with us that he has the right attitude to do this, it is early in the season and he played very well against Chelsea so we will have to wait and see if he can step up.
