I'm no fan of Lampard, and he's certainly been hugely overrated throughout his career, but I'm not sure what else people were expecting him to say.

If he'd come out and said 'please stop booing me, I really don't like it and it's forcing me to comfort eat' he'd be all over the papers for being a gutless (possibly wrong choice of word) ****.

He realises his ability is being called into question so is just deflecting attention from that by reiterating his desire to keep playing through a rough patch (which just happens to have lasted 4 years)

I think he realises Gerrard just keeps getting better, and he is at his best now - it's all downhill from here on.
