Yeah, I re-read that and see he seperates between reasonable locals and not.
    No offense intended.

Have to say tho, when we went to Bordeaux, it was like being part of a big family as you could spot the scouser easily, and thats not meant in a nasty kinda way, you just had an instinct of who was your mate even tho you didnt know them from Adam.
      You were there?
      So was I.

Random Scousers are "mates" then and other random LFC fans not?

Random scousers are easier for me to spot. If youre there speaking foreign with your foreign mates, how the **** do I know if your an LFC fan or not?

If I see a fat bloke with a scouse accent and pint in his hand, I know he isnt on a student exchange visit.

Yes, it is a good article and pretty close to my views on what happened Athens. I think I posted something similar on here not long afterwards. There's no doubt that UEFA must accept the vast majority of the blame for what happened, but there were more scumbags in Athens than I've seen at any other Liverpool game. They were still only a small minority, but it would be worrying if that sort of behaviour became the norm when we travel to Europe. Past trips to Dortmund, Paris, Istanbul etc. were a complete joy. Athens was still a good trip on the whole, but now the blame game has died down it is right for Bascombe to highlight the role that this small minority played in the chaos.

Slight whiff of xenophobia about the article I think.

Really? I thought the opposite (not xenophilia ). I thought he was being slightly anti-English rather than anti-foreign.
I thought it was a good article.

The solution is difficult, you can't stop fans from going on away matches if the matches are not all sold out by season ticket holders. Surely, the answer has to be SELF-POLICING. I'm not talking about being vigilanties, but as a body of fans we have to police ourselves. A bit like the reclaim the kop campaign, if we see LFC fans isbehaving then as a group of fans we ought to be keeping them in order.
Also I'd say the Scally behaviour is very much a reflection on society itself. Kids/youths who misbehave are very abundant these days. If you can't control them in England, you won't control them abroad either.
More tickets should go to fans and NOT to bloody touts or corporate.
The club needs to sort out it's fancard population. We have something like 200k fan card holders
The club should be able to suspend/revoke fan card membership of anyone involved in misbehaving including drunk and disorderly. They need to be bloody STRICT.
Alcohol is a huge fuel for this sort of thing, anyone suspected of being intoxicated should have their ticket removed and entry refused. Again they need to be strict.

All my opinion, but it should be about the game and enjoying the game in a relaxed exciting environment.
