    LIVERPOOL CONFIRM DOUBLE SWOOP

    Steve Hunter 22 August 2007

Liverpool have confirmed the double captures of defender Mikel San Jose and goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.

Hungarian stopper Gulacsi has arrived on a 12-month loan from MTK Hungaria and joins countryman Andras Simon and Krisztian Nemeth at Anfield.

San Jose is a Spanish centre-half who has joined the Reds from Athletic Bilbao on a three-year contract.

Both players will train at Melwood and be a part of Gary Ablett's reserve team squad.

    REDS CONFIRM DEFENDER LOAN

Liverpool Football Club has today confirmed defender Miki Roque will spend a season on loan at Spanish second division side Xerez CD.

The 19-year-old has been on Merseyside since signing from Lleida in 2005.

He was part of the 2006 FA Youth Cup winning team, scoring in the final against Manchester City.

Roque, who can play centre-half or right-back, made his first-team debut as a substitute in a Champions League group stage match against Galatasaray on December 5, 2006.

Later that season he spent two months on loan at League One outfit Oldham Athletic, where he featured in nine games.

Interesting there hasn't been much said about these. Wonder what the centre half is like.

Read about the keeper last week but thought we had wrapped up the San Jose deal weeks ago?

Don't see the point in sending Miki Roque to a second division Spanish side, would take this as a sign that he is not expected to make the grade here and will be sold hopefully after a good showing next summer, shame as Paco Harrera seemed confident about his future early doors

Xerves are considered one of the favourites for that league so will be a team with a decent amount of quality. Hopefully it will improve his ability on the ball and give him alot of playing time.

At a different pace in a different league back in his home country though mate - can't see how that would help him to adapt to an Engligh lifestyle and the English game

I'm not sure about that. Previously Rafa has talked about the utility of the 'b' teams being in the league in Spain, presumably this means the leagues they play in (such as the Secunda Division) are at a standard where players will be able to learn their trade. Without a feeder team or a 'b' team in a competetive division we need to find teams with good coaches at a decent level but where the squad is not so strong that a young player might struggle to get into the team. It is not always ability that decides if a player will egt in a team especially when on loan so it may be more useful for us to have a plyer loaned out to a lower level.

I think the segunda division is pretty rough, similar to the Championship, maybe it's not bad for him to play a season there in a decent team, better than Hartlepool and the likes.
