Looking in fine nick we are lads.

Arbeloa, Agger and Finnan - cool as cucumbers the lot of them when we lost Sami and Carra

Midfield looking good, Momo had a good game, slow start from Xabi but once he picked out Pennant in the build up to Momo's goal that was the catalyst for the silky basque to start getting in the groove again and find his passing range.

As for the wide boys, Pennant i thought was superb today, intelligent movement, showed his pace on a few ocassions, didn't give the ball away, put a few nice balls in for the forwards. He looks a totally different player in terms of confidence and drive. Keep it going lad, your starting to win us over.
Babel was a bit quiet but when he had the ball he always looked a threat, very strong lad, pacy and skillful, excellent bit of play in the move for our 2nd. This lad's the business but for now i'd keep him on the bench and bring him on for the last 25/30.

In terms of the striking department, the Crow and El Nino were a constant threat. How we got this Voronin lad on a free is beyond belief. He's intelligent, he uses his body well, he's strong, he's got good movement, a nice touch and he likes the odd strike at goal. I'm impressed with him. As for Torres well he was always on the move, finall we have a striker that will play right up top, on the shoulder of the last man as they say. Only disappointment is he didn't bag himself a goal but he had the Sunderland defence in tatters all afternoon. I didn't realise how quick he was but by christ can the lad fly

All in all a thoroughly professional performance although the way we're wasting all those chances is a concern, in saying that i'm sure the Crow, Torres and co will sharpen up as the season goes on.

    Well played Reds.

Goal wise, I think we'll improve and we'll be sharper as the season goes by. Still, it's very satisfying that we're creating as much chances now, thing we didn't really do last season.

Overall I thought we played, some times we were quick and fluid, other times we hit it long. Clearly we had several gears we could have gone up into if needed. There was a point in the second half where the game got messy and we lost a lot of composure.
Agree with Babel, he looked good firsthalf, but faded badly in the second, but overall he looks good and is on a learnikng curve. In a year or so from now he will be even better.

Dunno about Pennant, he had his moments but then gave the ball away away a bit too. Overall though solid game and he did look to win his share of 50-50 tackles.

With a bit more composure infront of goal we could have sailed away with it. But defensivley we held them off veasil and Momo was boss.

              Yep,good 3 points today.well done.

But..my only concern was.sloppy passing and total lack of ball control off 1 or 2 players.Early in the season I presume.

I was a little worried before this game,I thought we would be bullied/fouled all the way through it. didn't happen though.

Any ways 3 points in bag.

we do need some cb cover despite the lads coping well today
we could be a bit more clinical- but gordon played a blinder and showed why he cost as much as he did

the penny has dropped with pennant
                arbeloa. 2.5m top signing
                torres is top drawer
finnan 3rd choice captain. considering that rafa has flirted with other right backs in his time shows how professional and dedicated stevie f is to prove himself
veronin- what a leftfield steal by rafa. and to think many on here had written him off before he even arrived

2 away wins out of 2

                and all without stevie g....

Voronin and Arbeloa show that you don't have to break the bank to sign 1st team players.

and more importantly I predicted the score correctly and guessed that Voronin would score

The thing is that even if he doesn't score in a game he causes panic with his pace. I am really hopeful this year already.

Chris Bascombe was summarizing on BBC Merseyside and he was enthusing about the overall performance, as were the commentary team. All were very positive about Pennant (as M.o.M) and Torres, all round very positive.

We are now being talked about as real contenders.

I have to say Babel does remind me a little bit of Cisse.
