Really doesn't matter these days though, as sombody has said English players are very over-priced. Take Micah Richards now being valued between 15-30mil at 18 years old, compare that too Arbeloa who cost us 2.5mil and you can see why top clubs are full of foreign players.

What matters to me is to have eleven players who play like it mean something to them to play for our club. This season everyone who has pulled on the jersey has earned it. Long may this continue.

I think all clubs are currently suffering from the poor quality of youth development in the 90's. The Arsene Wenger recently showed that he believes in the next generation (u17 on) much more than those before. It is just a little early for us to expect results from the improvements seen in our youth setup to show in the first team.

the problem at arsenal is that the players are bought in. Are they really attached to the club? I would think if Arsene was to leave, a whole bunch of players would too.

On the other hand, Gerrard, Carra, neville, scholes, terry et al would most likely stay at their clubs.

For these players its a dream to play for their club, whereas for other players its just another club.

Personally, I think we need youth players coming through. as far as I can remember we always had players coming through, and really, looking now, we really do not have a lineage. From fowler, macca era, through now to gerrard, there seems to be a real dearth. I hope someone can take the mantle of the home grown rep.
