So, we will prob have to wait for LN to buy his contract out, without any genuine cover for CL matches, prob Carra?
Even if Lucas Neill buys his contract out tomorrow he won't be able to play for another club until January. The rules state that a player who is under contract when the transfer window closes cannot sign for another club until the opening of the next window even if he is freed from his contract whilst the window is shut.

Where does it say that mate. Can you give me a reference to the clause because that's the opposite of what I have read in the Premier League's official rule book.

I have no point of reference I'm afraid but that's what has happened in the past. Roy Keane to Celtic etc... He was released by manure before the January window and couldn't play for Celtic until the January. I know he was injured but he was not allowed to play because he was under contract at the scum when the transfer window closed despite being fit a month before the January window opened he was unallowed to play.
Yes, the key rule is that a player who is out of contract can approach any club at any time and any club can approach him at any time.
Next you have to establish what an out of contract player is, United must have paid off Keane whilst he wasn't playing for anyone as stated in the rules, unless they came to an agreement.
If LN buys out the remaining year of his contract then he becomes an "out of contract player".

Totally unrelated to us but another deal has just been announced - Todorov to Wigan on a season long loan from Pompey. There's a couple of twists left yet.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
